Getting the Gospel…

Romans 12: 9-15, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s […]

I cannot imagine what it feels like to look at a picture of your child and not be able to have him in your arms. TOO HARD! Praying that God brings you more peace during this time. I appreciate your vulnerability and openness about your struggles. Love you!!

Kim - April 26, 2010 - 7:04 pm

You are on FIRE as HIS light is RADIATING from you sweet friend!

such a heartfelt post! I love seeing your heart as you go through this journey to isaac :))

Dawn - April 26, 2010 - 8:01 pm

I ache with you!!! Isn’t it great to really understand God’s adoption of us on a whole new level!!!! Can’t WAIT- to see your ache end- and have Isaac in your arms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tricia - April 26, 2010 - 9:55 pm

Andrea – Ever since the Bible study shower, I haven’t stopped thinking of you or sweet Isaac. I can only imagine how much you ache for him because as your friend – I desperately am aching for you to have him home! I know as friends we are called to bear one anothers burdens and I just want you to know what a PRIVILEGE and BLESSING it has been to ache like this for and with you. You have inspired me, and our family, in ways you can’t imagine through your adoption story, so thank you for putting this beautiful ache in our hearts. I pray God will use it to transform our lives and our family’s story in the days to come.

Jennifer - April 26, 2010 - 10:29 pm

Mourning with you! My Josiah says that too and I AGREE..it is taking too long. Re-surrendered everything yesterday…picked it back up today thinking 4 more days until courts close for what feels like an eternity. OK..done whining:-) Have the Orphan Summit planning to keep me busy. Thinking you guys must not have gotten a table:-(
Jenny

Jenn - April 27, 2010 - 1:13 pm

Praying earnestly for a court date for you. The bible asks us to knock continually…and HE WILL ANSWER! I love that. I love that we are INSTRUCTED to ASK HIM for the desires of our hearts OVER and OVER and OVER again. He WANTS to hear about what we want. And he wants to give us “good things”. WOW. You have so many HUGE blessings coming your way girl!!!

Jenn

Megan - April 27, 2010 - 6:32 pm

You ARE such a great friend! I know we haven’t even met, but I always appreciate what you have to say. When I am frustrated with how long something is taking, you can completely relate but still have that hope to offer me by showing me how God has written your perfect story! And then you rejoice with me when we hit that milestone! Thank you. Praying with you that Isaac is home sooo soon!

My Surprise!

OK…so have you been curious what I’ve been sneaking around about?! Well…the hubby had to leave bright and early on Tuesday morning for business trip. With 3 kids under 5…soon to be 4 kids under 5:-)…and having a hubby that travels a bit—I tell myself that I have 2 choices. I can “woe is me” […]

Elle J - April 23, 2010 - 3:15 pm

Awesome work, Andrea!! Love the window and the color choices. I can visualize you sitting in the chair snuggling Isaac with a book and a song.

Lara - April 23, 2010 - 3:45 pm

Precious! Love the canvas idea, those are adorable!

Becca Harley - April 23, 2010 - 3:56 pm

Andrea – I love it!! I think that instead of me coming down there for a girls night out – you need to come hear and do that for me!:)

JonesEthiopia - April 23, 2010 - 4:19 pm

It is completely beautiful!! WOW

Megan - April 23, 2010 - 4:33 pm

It looks amazing Andrea! Again, you are such an inspiration. I often feel so bummed about my husband’s work schedule and feel sorry for myself that I can’t get many projects done. My main excuse is that I don’t know how. But over the last couple months I have found myself just jumping into the unknown and being a hands on learner. YOU have been my inspiration…and this adoption. I feel like I’ve conquered a lot through this process and I’m becoming a lot more confident in myself.
Okay…enough rambling. You did great! I love it! Can’t wait to see more!!! =P

Natali - April 23, 2010 - 8:32 pm

Betsy - April 24, 2010 - 4:57 pm

Love it Andrea! Now can you come do mine??!! I have most everything, except the motivation to get started. Maybe when I see her sweet face that motivation part will kick in!

Almost back:)

For those of you reading scripture alongside me this year…thank you for your patience. My hubby has been gone on biz for the past 3 days—he comes back in a few hours so I can say that now;)…and it’s been a crazy 3 days being solo. PLUS I decided to do a little surprise to […]

Strategic Parenting: Being Intentional in the Spiritual Development of Your Children

I recently received several emails—one being all the way from Australia (I so appreciate my Aussie readers! Can I come visit you one day;)—all inquiring about our devotional time with our children and just wanting for information and direction how this special time works in our family. For many parents today, we live in a […]

Wonderful post and can I just say… I love you! You are a breath of fresh air! I am a teacher and sometimes work with women who claim to be believers but sometimes have such ill will towards me and I think it’s just because I long to serve Him… your post always make me feel like I’m not alone. thank YOU!

Jenny - April 5, 2010 - 10:59 pm

Also, we use books to teach our children. We’ve finished the Narnia series and are now reading Little Pilgrim’s Progess… my boys are 6 and 5 and they LOVE it! It’s been so awesome to try to delve deeper into the meanings in some of those books.. I’ve also learned a lot.
AND of course we’re still reading through the Bible with you and have read many of our readings out loud to the boys.

Elle J - April 5, 2010 - 11:03 pm

Love this post, Andrea!!!

admin - April 5, 2010 - 11:05 pm

JENNY…we are reading Narnia RIGHT now!!! They are 4 and 5 and LOVING it! Were we seperated at birth;)?!

julie@Flitterbugs - April 6, 2010 - 7:49 am

Love this post Andrea! HUM…..ladies are emailing you for advice on teaching tender little hearts in the daily….I do see that book in your future:) My husband and I have been shocked at how much our kids absorb when we simply read scripture to them. (Even the OT “hard” stuff!) At 2 the big “rite of passage” occurs in our home…we don’t let the kids go to nursery or children’s church….we worship together as a family. We are shocked that by the time they hit about 4, they can accurately tell us what the sermon was about. Man, kids are soaking it all up! Which is kindof scary…what are we surrounding tham with to soak up?!? Love this post 🙂 And I cannot wait until your book comes out….I see in it the future baby gift I give to all of my friends 🙂

Lara - April 6, 2010 - 11:04 am

Great post! I actually struggled with finding appropriate verses for my 3 year old to memorize. You gave some great ideas here! It is so tempting and easy to just go on auto-pilot with kids and get through the day without stopping to consider my children’s hearts.

Christina - April 6, 2010 - 12:56 pm

Loved your post today. Was lead to your blog by Jenny and so glad that I came over for the read. Such an encouragement and a great reminder of the value of our families. We use the Ginger Plowman chart as well and I love the ease to finding information that we face DAILY! I enjoy taking verses out of the chart for a specific issue that maybe we’ve really struggled with at that time (oh wait – did I just admit my family struggles – oh, yes I did) and printing them to hang in our home. At the top of the page I try to put a “life applicable” quote (from myself) that helps them see how this goes from scripture to application, then I put the verse. We will work on it this way for just a week talking through it and memorizing. The next week – I add the heart probing questions from the chart at the bottom to help teach them how to handle sin when it happens. I want them to learn how to confess and repent, but also how to do it differently next time. It’s been good for us all! I will have to look into the mealtime book – that looks great! We have children 7, 6, 4 and at Christmas we decided this last year to read the Christmas story from Luke 2 every night from December 1st through Christmas….I was amazed at my oldest two quoting the scripture and my youngest filling in so much of it along the way. They soak it up and what an investment! Blessings to you and yours.

Dear Andrea, Finally I have gotten to reading properly thru your post, I have had a crazy 2 weeks here (school holidays here in Oz). Thank you thank you for all your great tips and humble manner of encouraging us. You are truly being used for God’s glory. I was really blown away by your life motto – I have been trying to live a more regret-free life lately; hadn’t thought, though, of the when I’m 80…… so I’ll add that into my thinking too now.

Easter weekend fun…

Just a few things we did this weekend… Lamb cupcakes for kids dessert… {Soooo…easy and fun for them to make! A large center marshmellow in the center covered in white icing helps the little marshmellows stick. Add pink jelly beans for the ears, chocolate for the hooves and black icing for the eyes and mouth. […]

That garden bed is so AWESOME!!! Definitely going to look into that! We don’t have time for a huge garden anymore but LOVE having the fresh veggies and goodies! That looks sooo cool!

And what a joyous blessing to have a friend that was baptized and is sharing his testimony with EVERYONE! What an example to the rest of us! 🙂 Glad you had a fabulous weekend. Need to e-mail and catch up! ♥ God Bless!
