Maintaining Peace While Raising Warriors… {Reading: Judges 3:31-6:40}

Don’t you love it when you are doing consistent Bible study…and each day’s reading seems to so perfectly align with what you are currently learning in your life?! That seems to happen so often for me—and today was another one of those days! Some things on my heart today…and maybe yours too… No matter how […]

I really need to read that book. Whining has been a big struggle with my little boy lately, and I have come to my whit’s end more than once!

Jennifer - April 1, 2010 - 7:35 pm

Great post! My hubby and a group of men have used this book and designed their own “Knight Training” and system starting the boys at age 7. It is such a blessing! Just today we were talking about being a Page and behavior that meets that standard! Page, squire, knight.

Sounds like chaos was the understatement of your morning, although I did enjoy the chuckle. Glad every one had limbs attached and breathing by the time your day was done. =) Have a peaceful evening.

We love that book at this house… and I just picked up “Raising a Modern Day Princess” for the wee-est one. My husband has structured many “warrior training” excursions for our boys around the book’s principles. 🙂

My dear Andrea!

I just relived my days like the one you just described! You are doing such a wonderful job of rearing young warriors! As our sons were coming along, my goal was to bring them to maturity without permanently damaging one another! They have turned out to be awesome Christian men…still doing dangerous things, I might add.

Your comments about the need for warriors is so “right on.” Women are stressing themselves out with battles they were never meant to fight. Praise God for young warrior mothers who are training sons to assume their rightful role that God intended.

Keep on fighting; it’s worth every moment!

I love you!

Making Mommying Matter

Looking back on my first pregnancy almost 6 years ago—I remember being overwhelmed…would I know what to do…would I mess them up?! How would I ever get them on a schedule? And what was a schedule anyway?! This mommy is definitely still learning. But 6 years and 3 kids later I definitely see things differently—wish I knew […]

We had a scheduled “Quiet Time” for both kids until they went to all-day school (1st grade). We even used it during a long road trip in the mid-west one summer. They grew up knowing that Quiet Time meant quiet regardless where their bodies were. They need time to think and read and hopefully, as they grow into teens, young adults, adults, they will continue Quiet Time on their own and turn it into prayer, reading the Bible, thinking, goal setting, regrouping, resting. That has been my own “did right” for my family. =)

i love the way you share truth….about everything! and especially here about parenting. you do it with such grace and with no judgement. yet you share REAL truth and great practical ideas! thanks!

i agree…the Word has all we need to know to be the mom God wants us to be! there are lots of good books out there…but the Word is the BEST one! and the one we should go to when we’re really at the end of our ropes!

your children are blessed to call you their mom!

Caytie - March 25, 2010 - 6:15 pm

I love this post…your are so right….so many books! Read THE BOOK! How true…our souls long for answers and quick fixes….going to the One is what we need to do and he will guide us as parents! He promises to!

Lisa - March 26, 2010 - 5:17 am

Hi andrea, i’ve just found your delightful blog; thanks for the great words you share. I am struggling with how to do meaningful devotions with our kids (5.5, 3.5, 1.5). We are just reading a devo book for kids (maybe a little too old for them), but I feel like we could do more. When you use the felt board, is that each night, with the bible story? Have you taught them a way to pray? i.e. one sentence thank you prayer/one sentence request prayer? Do you require the baby to be with you all too? Ours gets very noisy. With memory verses, what do you mean you teach one that you happen to be dealing with at that time? How do you teach them anyway?
Could you make a whole new post on this topic? 🙂

Thanks so very much

Great post, thanks for sharing your heart! So many of those books stressed me out so bad! Cryin it out? Really? That sooo did not work for me. 15 minutes was my breaking point. I did have a book that had a few ideas that helped me get my boy on schedule, but most of it I disregarded. The thing that worked bet for me is watching my son for one week, writing down his natural schedule…when he would start rubbing his eyes, when his cranky times were, when he at…and I started to notice a pattern! Now, he goes down for a nap at the same time everyday. Noon hits and I ask him if he’s ready for bed and HE walks to his room, turns on his fan and asks me to put him in his crib! Okie dokie! Easy enough….I agree…it really is easy just don’t read too much into all the overwhelming advice you get. …of course this is coming from a mom of one…I’m sure I have a lot to learn still.

Collecting Coins, Yummy Recipe & One Year Bible Reading

COLLECTING COINS… This week, Parker’s school Fellowship Christian, has been collecting coins to raise money for Wiphan Care Ministries! The kids have gotten REALLY excited about collecting coins this year—if they fill up their classroom jar they get an ICE CREAM PARTY (YUM!). They only have 8 kiddos in the preK classes where the other […]

Love your boy’s heart. Precious!

Kim - February 24, 2010 - 5:20 pm

Oh our precious children! My oldest (14 yr) came up to me and handed me 100.00 and said it was for the Adoption fund. My reaction was the same as yours…”Are you sure?!” He was insistant and I was humbled. He had been collecting his birthday and Christmas money from family. Love these little world changers!

Shannon - February 25, 2010 - 1:13 am

Oh to have their faith! My 8 year old is such a giver and is always reminding me that those little extra things I like to throw in the cart at Target are not needs but wants and the money would be better used to help others. I’m trying to keep up with the reading…not too far behind!

[…] in Parker’s sweet school were working hard to sell things they made (you can read about it here) to raise money for […]

Yummy Recipe, Dance Me Daddy & One Year Bible Study

If you are a Southern Living magazine subscriber, you have to make the yummy Banana Bread Cobbler in February’s issue. (If you aren’t…I found the recipe and linked it below!) The cobbler after being half devoured… Imagine yummy bananas and pecans all throughout this dish. And of course it’s best served hot with vanilla ice […]

Such a sweet picture of Laney! Thank you for breaking these principles and offerings down. This stuff is easy to read over and miss so much of the significance. So many details and instruction! Let my heart be open to the instructions He has for my life!

Renea - February 16, 2010 - 11:39 am

Total yummy!!! I got that issue over a week ago and hadn’t even flipped it open yet! Found the recipe and guess what’s for dessert tonight?! lol Thanks for the heads up! I need to read my magazines more!

Amy @ Filled With Praise - February 16, 2010 - 12:04 pm

Bless Frank’s heart. I said a prayer for him. The picture of Laney is just too precious.
Blessings,
Amy

AMEN! Love these posts….real encouragement for THE REAL SOURCE!

Megan - February 16, 2010 - 5:20 pm

Saying a prayer for Frankie. We just got over a stomach virus and ear and eye infections for my lil man. I feel your pain! I pray its short lived!
Sweet SWEET picture of Laney. Sounds like a precious book.
On the reading today…I feel like its getting very repetitive the last few days and I’m really bored of it but I’m continuing my reading. I’m just thankful when I get something out of it. Like today when they were talking about the offering of your BEST (and yes, I was thankful we don’t have to do this anymore either, yuck!) I was thinking of the fact that we buy all homegrown beef and pork from my ILs. God was very particular on age and no defects. Well I can tell you that some of the younger ones taste the best, and how much it shows of thier hearts that they would give that up as an offering to God. I know I would pay so much extra for that meat! It’s incredible, really.
Well, I’ll keep up with the reading…thank you for the accountability. I know you don’t specifically email me and remind me, but I feel totally guilty if I don’t! So thanks for blogging!

melissa - February 16, 2010 - 9:54 pm

I loved that book! So a cute picture of Laney!

Renea - February 16, 2010 - 9:55 pm
