Wanna help?

I have a really, amazing, inexpensive…super cool thing that YOU could do…to help an orphan in a really BIG, life-changing, life perserving way. Working on last minute details…but we need YOUR help–and it’ll cost less than a trip through the drive thru. Oh yeah–and every orphan that needs one…really should have it by the end […]

excited to help!!

Change a life for just $700…

I have a confession to make. You know me and my honest confessions. I was on my way home from the doctor with Isaac Temesgen (not a great appointment…double ear infections…antibiotics didn’t work…add an ENT to our list of people to see…retested for UTI…more meds) and as I headed to the physcial therapist to pick […]

Thanks Andrea! I have the sponsorship requirements for Project 61 if anyone is interested. Korah is one my heart and I can’t wait to go and visit via P61 staff.

We have been thinking about this exact topic so much!!! Also wanted to share a link to the pics of where ‘our’ kids are going to be going to school in Shashamane http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1114560&id=1626696378#!/album.php?aid=189608&id=653659334&ref=mf I also heard that the school in Shashamane is ALMOST full and they are going to have to look for another school to send the kids too – which means almost 200 kids have been sponsored!!! Praise the Lord!!!

SleepyMom - August 10, 2010 - 4:56 pm

I stumbled upon Project 61 a few weeks ago and couldn’t help but immediately sign up to sponsor a child. Funnily enough I’d been looking for a way to help an orphan and was mentally thinking about giving $350 for the year, but when I saw what amazing things were happening in these children’s lives spending twice that much just seemed right. Giving away more than I planned opened the flood gates. I found myself a week later donating to a different organization that feeds and educates the poor and orphans. Instead of feeling like I’ve sacrificed, I just feel like I actually did something worthwhile with my money.
Thanks for sharing this awesome organization with all your blog reader.

Nina - August 10, 2010 - 5:20 pm

We sponsored a child through P61 a couple of weeks ago also!!! Woohoo! I feel so stinkin’ lucky that I get to be a part of this. It is AMAZING! I wrote about it on my blog over here. http://whenwebelong.blogspot.com/2010/08/lucky-enough-to-get-messed-up.html
So often we can give so much more than we think we can. Just jump in! ๐Ÿ™‚

Alisha Robertson - August 10, 2010 - 5:27 pm

This is such a touching video… for whatever reason it hits home to me a bit more than others. The thought of children eating out of a trash dump is hard for me to comprehend. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a wonderful organization.

Megan - August 11, 2010 - 2:07 pm

I struggle with that same thing all the time! Glad to know we’re not alone.

WIdows + OrPHANs = Wiphan (+ our 1st family pic)

I am encouraged by orphan advocates. Their are a gazillon of them. BUT…let us not forget how scripture teaches us to care…for BOTH the orphan and widow. ALMOST every time the orphan is mentioned in scripture–which is A LOT…SO IS THE WIDOW. So–my question is this: Why does the widow so often seem to be […]

I have a dear friend who is widowed due to cancer that struck her husband, and she is left to raise her three young children solo. Out of all the “little things” I have done for her (little because it never seems to be enough when you care for some one so deeply ~ you just want to do it all), my favorite was surprising her with a bouquet of flowers on her wedding anniversary, the first with out him. Seeing her face shine and reading her eyes ~ said it all.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this post and posted a specific story of such on my blog not long ago. The post wasn’t to “toot my own horn” but to testify that scripture is very right when it says it is worship – true worship. Our hearts must seek to serve both!!! And 1 Timothy 5:3-4 tells us to begin with our own families first. Feel free to read my post in all your free time ๐Ÿ™‚ http://johnandchristinaanderson.blogspot.com/2010/05/love-serving-washing-of-feet.html

This is a lovely post, and so true. In our Church we believe in helping everyone. Be it a dinner to the sick, visiting the elderly or alone, watching someones kids for a while or just simply calling to see if someone needs anything.
I find by helping others we receive so many blessing! To be lost in HIS service it the best service we can give.

I think this video say it all….

Your family pictures are simply fabulous, I’m lucky enough that I get to stitch peoples families and then those are given as gifts to others.

Have a happy Tuesday!

Hello!

First time commenter here. I am so inspired by your blog! I am passionate about grief and widow care and the role this plays in our local churches. I can’t recommend the book “From One Widow to Another” by Miriam Neef enough. She challenges churches to take the call to care for the widow seriously and offers amazing advice on ways the church can reach out to the widows in their communities and congregations. She also gives heartfelt insight into accepting the “new normal” that a widow/widower faces and encouragement for the road ahead. I know you are so busy right now, but this is a great book to consider when you have time for reading again!

What’s cookin’ good lookin’

This weekend brought on all kinds of fun at the Young house! One of my bestfriends is getting married in Nashville in September…the very weekend that we officially “break” the cocoon;). Of course we’ll break ‘er slowly…but Isaac Temesgen will be making a short appearance in the back of the church while mommy walks down […]

Megan - July 20, 2010 - 2:06 am

So you skip church too while you are cocooning, or is it just this wk b/c of the shower. I have such mixed feelings over doing that (and this is for OUR family, not judging yours, of course…I admire you so much!)…b/c on one hand yes, I want our baby to have that attatchment period, but the other part of me wonders…will church really harm her that much? I would be “wearing” her at all times and such if we did…I just think it would be bad for us as parents not to go?!?! Anyway…would love your imput on that since I know at this point you have done far more research on the subject than I have.
BTW – yes Isaac is simply adorable and yes those cheeks are kissable and yes those eyes melt my heart! =) Keep sharin’ the pics, I love ’em!

Tiffany - July 20, 2010 - 10:03 am
