Africa T-shirt Fundraiser

With our current financial focus being on our adoption to bring home our sweet baby girl–momma has decided to get creative and do a little fundraising to get me across the ocean to serve the 450 orphans and 150 widows of Wiphan!!! It has been FOUR years since I first went over…when I stepped on […]

Staci - May 26, 2011 - 3:54 pm

Great post! Cool shirt! Has anyone had trouble posting the link to FB? I have tried a couple times using the F button provided and it isn’t going through.

Staci - May 26, 2011 - 3:58 pm

Please disregard my previous comment… FB was “hung up” and it posted 10+ times. I changed it to display one post so I wouldn’t annoy people! Not sure what was happening… technology glitch I guess! ๐Ÿ™‚ Excited about wearing the shirt and even more excited about your opportunity to serve!

Taryn Harvey - May 26, 2011 - 6:24 pm

Hi Andrea,

I.LOVE.YOUR.SHIRT!! I am in the beginging stages of planning a womens missions trip to Mexico to love on some orphans there and I would love to use your shirt as our “team shirt”. Just wondering if you are going to be ordering extras or are you ordering only what you get pre-orders for. As I said we are in the begining stages and really do not even know how many women will be going with us. What do you think? Should I guess as to how many women will be coming? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Shanna Stolte

Framing on the cheap {How to frame your own posters and prints}

One of the best investments I made back in my photography days was a professional framing starter kit that I purchased from Kendallhartcraft. I bought it with the intention to frame for my clients–but did this ONCE. The REAL investment has been NOT paying for $$$ professional framing and simply doing it myself. {Seriously–professional framing […]

Love it! What a great framing tutorial! Thanks, Andrea! And I love Mpix too! I was so impressed with their quality and prices! And they run sales all the time!!!

Shelly Roberts - May 24, 2011 - 3:37 pm

FABULOUS post!!! I use my tape gun all the time for paper crafting/card making. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love this tutorial! The idea of using your map in a glassed frame is fabulous. I have to say that I crack up every time you mention “when my kids study” or any variation of that phrase that you are famous for. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Elle J - May 24, 2011 - 4:03 pm

You are such a good teacher ~ It looks fantastic!!

eryn kesler - May 24, 2011 - 4:15 pm

loving this tutorial!!

Amber - May 24, 2011 - 4:44 pm

Scott used to always think I was crazy to frame our portraits myself…until I showed him a bill from Hobby Lobby when I had a customer’s print framed! Now he just smiles when I get my kit out!

Erica - May 25, 2011 - 12:51 am

Yer killin me. When I come to Atlanta can I be considered a local and have an in person Andrea tutorial!??! I have a ton to frame! ๐Ÿ™‚

Kim - May 25, 2011 - 8:31 am

GREAT tips, thank you!!!

Lindsay - May 25, 2011 - 10:39 am

I have been wanting to do something just like this!! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find that map?? I’ve been on the search for one like that. Thank you!

jenn - May 25, 2011 - 4:07 pm

Fun! Did you know that if you purchase ANY open back frame from Hobby Lobby they will frame it for you for FREE? That doesn’t include the price of the glass. But I got 4 pics of my kiddos mounted on 2mm styrene…bought 4 half price frames…took my pics to the counter and they set them in the frames, added back board, covered the back, and added hardware. NO COST! And they had my order ready in 24 hours. Just good to know because I had no idea they did that!

admin - May 25, 2011 - 4:20 pm

I guess it differs for every HL Jenn–b/c the last thing I paid HL to frame for me was $$$!!! I want YOUR HL girl!!!!!! That is one sweet deal!!!

Sara - June 18, 2011 - 12:21 am

Great directions but I must say I am a professional framer at Michaels. The service is over priced but I’ve never had anyone regret the decision to have it done. Also if you order your frame through custom framing, even during a 64% off sale, the frame itself is still expensive. Also we do A LOT of training and then are expected to pass three different level exams.

Tara - August 10, 2011 - 9:36 am

Thank you SO much for these pointers! I just picked up a couple of open back frames at Michaels yesterday on major clearance but didn’t know how to use them! I’ve never heard of Mpix and it is just what I’ve been looking for!

Sarah - November 24, 2012 - 6:06 pm

hands down, one of the best framing tutorials I’ve found. I’ve been looking for one that is inspired by solid, professional techniques but is approachable and involves a craft store rather than someone’s Framing Workshop of Intimidation.

A million times over – thank you for publishing this.

Anne - December 7, 2012 - 12:25 pm

What Sarah said!

I have been on a print buying spree and the framing is killing me and my pocketbook. I’ve been wondering if I could do a decent-looking job of framing these prints myself, and now I feel that I can jump in and do it by following your instructions.

THANK YOU!

Alex - December 23, 2013 - 3:50 pm

Thanks for the great article – super useful and appreciate the pointers, however I had an unrelated comment to make. I’m glad you didn’t want to offend the Alaskans, but who are the Phillipians? Like the ancient people that a book in the bible was named after? Or the island of the Philippines where Filipino people live? You probably offended them more.

Omar - May 2, 2015 - 8:52 pm

Thank you sooo much for this! I bought some prints on ebay, went to Michael’s today and saw the open backed frames (40% off, yessssss!), which were way nicer than any of the others. I saw the “kit” which was cardboard and a sheet of glass. It looked amazing, but then, how will I keep the print in the frame and how do people use these dang things? A quick Google search led me here and I am so glad. Terribly helpful.

I am scrambling this evening – but saw you posted and had to check it out. Only had time to scroll through pictures – will come back tomorrow to read. =) But wanted to say that the coaster is my FAVORITE verse as it was the blessing my Pastor spoke to me when I was baptized. LOVE IT!! Rings so true to me. I will be jumping over to purchase. =) Thanks for the link!!!

A little olive oil will take those tattoos right off! Been following your blog for a while now. Your babies are gorgeous! Thank you for always being so encouraging and positive!
God bless!

Becca - May 19, 2011 - 2:39 am

I’ve just started reading your blog, and I love hearing about your kiddos (and your “paper” pregnancy, with one on the way). Thanks for sharing your heart.

On a practical note, fingernail polish remover should take off the wretched tattoo. My kids love them, and grandma loves to help them out, but they drive me absolutely crazy. If you wait for the tattoo to wear off, Frank may be starting kindergarten with Mater on his hand…

Shelly Roberts - May 19, 2011 - 8:09 am

Soooo fun getting to see a snapshot of your afternoon! Didn’t know they made such straws. Wow. My boys would have been all over those when they were little. ๐Ÿ™‚

Loved hearing about the fund raising idea! I can SO appreciate this mom’s efforts. We did massive assembly lines during our 2nd daughter’s adoption with card making. Thousands upon thousands of cards were made and we ended up raising about $10,000 that way over the year. It was an INSANE amount of work and sooooooooo worth it for our precious wee-one to have a family.

kim zawodzinski - May 19, 2011 - 8:36 am

Baby oil is another way to take off temporary tatoos.

Joy Kinard - May 19, 2011 - 8:43 am

Use rubbing alcohol on the tattoo. It will come right off. I love your little family! I read your blog all the time, but rarely leave you a comment. I hate when people don’t leave me comments, so sorry about that! I was thinking about your sweet family just the other day. We have a sweet foster baby girl that we are praying God allows us to adopt. She is African American and we are white. I was getting myself in a tizzy about if she will fit in with her african-american peers, who she will marry, etc…. And then it occured to me that I could PRAY that God will surround her with other children just like her! Black babies with white parents! So… I got busy with the praying. I can not wait to see what God does about it!

Debb - May 19, 2011 - 1:09 pm

Oh, your kiddos just make me smile! You could be my neighbor any day! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alison - May 19, 2011 - 1:56 pm

Love the cute pics! And I was looking for some coasters the other day…will go order some from Sarah!!!

Sandi - May 20, 2011 - 2:31 pm

Thank you for letting us know about Sarah! Hoping one day it will be us. Until then it just makes my heart happy to support other families who are giving one more child a loving family!!!! I’m thinkin’ those coaster sets will make some lovely presents. I love gifts with “a conscience”, makes them that much more special!

Erin Crenshaw - May 22, 2011 - 9:37 pm

God used Steven Curtis Chapman powerfully in our lives. It was at his concert in 2004 where my husband finally felt the call to adopt. He turned to me at intermission and said, “I am ready if you still are”. Two years later we welcomed Eliza from China. I will forever be so grateful to the Chapman family for their love of orphans!
Thank you Andrea for being His word and doing His work every day!!! I always look forward to what you have to share!

rebekah wright - May 17, 2011 - 7:15 pm

Thanks for sharing this {we were so honored to get to be a part of this segment}. I have commented here before and I am so inspired and encouraged by your family and your blog. {My mother in law works with Lesa Young at the pregnancy center, which is how I heard about you guys.} It is such a gift to hear about families like yours who share our heart for orphans and adoption and following where the Lord leads…even when the rest of the world thinks we are nuts:) Thanks for the ways that you share here!! Blessings to your sweet family!

Farrah - May 17, 2011 - 9:53 pm

Andrea, does she have an email address? I would love to talk to her about her domestic adoption. I couldn’t find one on their blog. But she may not want it out.
