…since I stepped foot into a gym. I thought that was pretty impressive. I broke the record last night–and I signed up for a gym with my 4 kids…one that we can actually do things together at. One that has a really fun play area–so when Rico Suave is out of town for a week…I […]

Author Archives: adminI am learning to surrender to Jesus…and to follow my husband. These are two things–I confess…that I struggle with. I like to be in control. I like to get things done–and I am secretly driven by the motto “if you want it done right–do it yourself.” SO…I stink when it comes to delegating. I rarely […] Amen!! This is fantastic, Andrea. I love how you wrote every sentence; it is so positive and uplifting. Well done – letting go, trusting Him and him, and beginning the journey in a new and equally special way. Okay…wow. I told my hubby tonight that he had a son from another mother-sponsored child. I told him my stories of my day of the man with the torn sock, in the wheelchair who needed help…of the young man who needed a little something extra…of the woman who lost her job who needed help buying her medicine. When I thought he was going to say, “Ok go back to work if you are going to give away my hard earned money”, his response was simply a smile. He said he had a heart to heart with our 7 yr old about what it means to be christian while mommy was gone. I think God gives us laid back husbands because he knows that they will be the calm and the still when our hearts are leading us to go and do. God is so good. I am so glad to know I’m not the only one that’s captain of the Adoption Ship. It’s so hard to give over control, even to my spouse. Oh wow. I am weeping right now because I know that feeling. I am in awe of what you are doing and I applaud you and your husband. Your family is a beautiful picture of what God can do if we let Him lead. I have been following you for some time now and have been so enlightened by your lives. Thank you for sharing what God has laid on your heart! I LOVE this, Andrea. I have had to step back SO MANY times and realize that I am the one trying to make the decisions and lead our family…instead of letting Jody do it! I love that you are giving this adoption journey to your husband to lead ya’ll! Way to go! I know it must have been really hard to hand over the 3 ring binder!!! WOW!!!! I am such a control freak when it comes to adoption. I am the planner, the checklist person, the person who wants it done yesterday- 3 months ago would have been better!! YOU are amazing for doing this…..can totally see God in it ๐ I struggle with that same thing. When you said you read the books and gave him the 10 minute cliff notes…I had to laugh because I do that too. Thank you for sharing! ![]() Just wanted to report and document our FIRST day of homeschool! I didn’t sleep a WINK Sunday night…tossing and turning…wondering if THIS was the best thing for our kids this year. EVERY year, we always reevaluate–and beyond a shadow of a doubt Rico Suave and I felt the Lord leading us to homeschool our children. […] Hello! I am a lurker and decided to come out to ask you a question… I am homeschooling while on the mission field in South Africa. We started on Monday, also. We are doing the Apologia Astronomy and I was wondering what the actual name of the app you are using it? Did you get it from the Apple Apps? I am looking forward to following your new journey! Thanks! What a GREAT day, Andrea!! I loved getting to “see” it! Love it. Having the kids learn at their own pace is such an opportunity. I am homeschool preschooling this year. I need to check out the felt Bible stories that you mentioned. I want to be in YOUR homeschool! Hee hee hee. I’m so glad for you that you’re enjoying it. And Laney’s comment about her brain hurting is any teacher’s best compliment! When I was a teacher, on days kids said stuff like that I knew I was doing something right. So fun!!! Looks like it was a great day! And I wish that my alarm didn’t go off until 7:30! That would be great??? Ok, I am finally going to have to ask, what is Trader Joe’s??? We don’t have those down here in MS… So glad y’all had a great first day. I told you last year that I knew you would make a wonderful homeschool momma. You have the gifts it requires or at least those gifts make it a bit easier. Can’t wait to keep up with your sweet family through out the school year. We haven’t even started (except my oldest)…. should have started this Monday but just couldn’t happen. Oh well, we’re shooting for next Monday :)PB are you using “the story of our world”. I have searched for it and cannot find it…only “the story of the world” is it the same thing, and if not…where I can check out what you are using? LOVE YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!! Can’t wait to get started here….chomping at the bit….waiting for this move to be done ๐ so we can get to it!!! Great fun!! Such sweetness….you will take them places that will forever change them and far beyond the galaxy of learning. You are courageous and I am so proud of you. Ya’ll google Tom Marshburn…he flew STS 127 for NASA he is Uncle Tom….SIster’s brother in law…one of 7 children…the last of the bunch…Presbyterian Pastor his daddy…SO, Tom is now going to fly in his next Mission with Russia…he is an MD and speaks fluent Russian…Blessings ! I have been meaning to comment forever and finally remembered to jump on the actual blog-I read on my iPad at night in Google Reader ;-). Anyhow, I thought today would be a good day to say hi and “I read your blog!” since I wrote a post about adoption on my homeschooling blog and I mentioned that I “stalk” adoption blogs ;-), thought you’d like to know yours is one of them!! http://1plus1plus1equals1.blogspot.com/2011/08/photography-adoption2-loves.html I also wanted to welcome you to the homeschooling world, I LOVED your post with the denim jumper…cracks me up!!! ๐ Oh my…momma’s heart is beating a little faster and I feel a bit excited and nervous just like I used to back in my teacher days. Monday is our first day of homeschool here, and I truly have no idea what to expect. Everyone tells me your first year is the hardest, but after that […] Praying for you all!!! Cannot wait to hear how tomorrow goes;) i was homeschooled for 11 years……and i love hearing about other families that are starting! I loved this post! It reminded me of my homeschooling days and all my special times with my own mom and it also reminded me of my teaching days! ๐ I have to say, the nursing home thing is by far one of the best ideas I’ve heard of for homeschooling families, i love, love, love it! Look forward to watching your new adventure unfold! I am so excited for you guys, Andrea!!!! So excited to hear how everything goes, and also to hear how you entertain Isaac and Frank. That is our hardest thing around here because my littlest creates quite a distraction and makes learning tough sometimes since we dont have a room far enough away for him to make noise at his heart’s content without everyone else hearing. ๐ At least yours have each other. ๐ I will be using Story of the World for 1st grade too and excited to get going too! Hoping to learn lots from you and your creativity this year in homeschooling like I do in everything else! ๐ You’ll love it Andrea! I have no doubt you’ll be great at it too, from what I know of you through the blog world.:) I have four little girls 7, 4, 2, and 8 months (and more on the way from Ethiopia). This will be our third year of homeschooling, and even on the hard days I have never once regretted our decision. And you are so right to include serving others in your curriculum.:) Outside of all the fun and crazy learning we do around here, getting a chance to serve our neighbors and our church is one of my favorite things. Be blessed! Gonna be a great year! good luck tomorrow! You will have so much fun. I homeschool our crew. They are 6,5,4,3,3 and 1. Right now I’m focusing on the older 3 and adding the 3 year olds in in a few weeks. Our day starts with Bible and poetry. I use eating times as read aloud times because their little hands and mouths are busy:) After breakfast we do as much book time as they can take (handwriting, math, language, science worksheets). We do science experiments all together before lunch once or twice a week. Then during the little ones nap time we curl up and they read to me. You will find your groove…then loose it…then find a better one:) I’m excited to follow you and get some ideas! So excited to see all the fun stuff you come up with Andrea! It is my dream to teach my children one day and I get giddy just thinking about it. Have fun! ![]() Alright…we are getting geared up and ready to share some news!!! We will post a list of all the breakout sessions THIS weekend for you to checkout! They will be posted here, on the C4C blog, on the C4C website AND on the Created for Care page on Facebook. I’m SO excited about this next […] Cannot wait! I will be there! You are amazing – planning all of this, Andrea! Does the conference center have shuttle service from the airport? Or is there a way to find a ride there? Christy–The hotel doesn’t offered it–so last year we decided to go the extra mile and pull off this service ourselves. What we learned was…it’s not worth it. Moms paid $45 for roundtrip shuttle service. If their flight got delayed–there was nothing we could do and their spot still had to be paid for because we got the rate we did based on the number of ladies committed to using the service. If they missed the last shuttle, they had to rent a car. Using http://www.priceline.com we found those ladies who missed their flights car rentals for just $45. SO…we are suggesting moms to do this instead and then they pay the same and don’t have to wait an hour at the airport for the next shuttle. AND they can leave the retreat when it’s over whenever they want (some had late flights but they had to leave at 10am and miss the share session b/c so many had early flights–and they were bummed about that…but we only got the $45 rate if we did multiple shuttles on Friday and just one on Sunday). Tough stuff. SO…technically if moms have the option for making it even cheaper by sharing their flight times on Facebook and hooking up with another mom to split the car rental with!!! At worst, you don’t split it with anyone and pay the same as you would for a shuttle…but it’s way more convenient!!! There is an $8 gate pass fee once you get there–but you only pay that for the entire weekend and you can come and go as you please with no additional fee at the gate:) Woohoo! I can’t wait! It looked amazing last year and I am so excited. In fact, since I’m on Pacific Time over here I’m gonna have to camp out by my computer on August 31st (you know, like those nut-bars outside Wal-mart the day after Thanksgiving:)) just so I can make it in time! AAAAHHHHH! Is it September yet!?!?! Can’t wait!!!! it was amazing last year and just a few days before we got our surprise referral for our son!!! I have to say, I am practicing typing quickly because it’s going to fill up fast!!! haha! Yay!!! I am so excited to see this! Last year C4C was AMAZING!!! I can’t wait for this year, and I will definitely help spread the word! Hope we can bring an even bigger crew from Mississippi this year!!! ๐ So excited for the retreat! And thank you for sharing the video. Just what my heart needed today. ๐ So excited! Been planning and saving for it all year….can’t wait! Is the retreat for moms who have only done international adoption? Farrah–It’s for domestic…international…foster care!!! Wouldn’t miss it! Happy to help if needed. ๐ Thank you so much for sharing the info and the video…every video I see, I hope brings our family one step closer to it being US in the video. ๐ I can’t help but cry with every one I see. Beautiful! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!! I’ve got September 1st burned in my brain with my fingers ready to type! ๐ Thank you so much for sharing our video!! Love you!!!! if i remember correctly we were told at the awesome retreat last year that we would have a guaranteed this spot this year, is that still true? i am so excited!! How many spots do you have for the conference? |
