Happy Memorial Day!

I love traditions…and I especially love traditions that teach our children what the days we celebrate and remember are all about. A few years ago, I told Rich that I wanted to spend days celebrating their true meaning—and Memorial Day is no different. SO…instead of grilling out…instead of going to the lake…we go hear from […]

amen!! 😀 Keep training those kiddos of yours in His ways, Andrea! You’re doing a great job :))

marci - June 1, 2010 - 9:06 am

AMen. Just like I wrote on FB…it is not about grilling,it is not about the day off,or lake…it is to REMEMBER our soldiers who gave their life for our FREEDOM and the ones that are still out their to allow us our Freedom of today. My dad-Marine,2 brothers-Marine…1 is at Walter Reed helping wounded soldiers get up and learn to swim ,jog and live ! You are so great to share your passions of life with others…So much the way we have raised our kids. One is at Emory Med school 1st year and one has completed 10th grade at St Pius. Shockley got the Pope John Paul Award at the school…what an honor…using the gifts God has given is honoring God !

Peanut Butter…African style

If you have never had peanut butter naturually–then you are missing OUT! I had my first batch in Zambia in 2007 when the Wiphan widows made it in their wooden churns for us. I went right to the market and bought our family a wooden churn to bring home—only when I bought it, Kunda informed […]

oh, I wish that I had brought home a wooden churn from Yemen! Do you know where I can get one here? I love fresh peanut butter – and would love to have the kids entertained and get exercise at the same time!:)

Julie@Flitterbugs - May 19, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Yum! We make our own peanut butter too….only I just stick the nuts in the juicer…and wha-la! I have my great-grandma’s butter churn…gonna have to try it out one day! Your garden looks beautiful!

Trudy - May 19, 2010 - 3:40 pm

I giggled when you said “Frank is a machine!” How adorable. You have a great spirit. You will be in my prayers Sunday evening. Pretty soon you will be commenting on Isaac’s guns 🙂

Jenny - May 19, 2010 - 4:07 pm

wow! that churn is a lot bigger than i thought from the first picture! YUUUUM! i am a peanut butter addict and this looks delicious!!!!

Kristy Filbrun - May 19, 2010 - 6:45 pm

I loved this whole post!!! Your children are so cute!! And your Frankie reminds me of my youngest with literally no hair!! So cute!!! Your garden looks like quite the garden!!! And the lady I used to clean house for showed me how to make peanut butter one time but it would be so cool to have a churn from Africa!! We will be praying again for your family knowing that Gods will is the best!!!

Dawn - May 19, 2010 - 8:47 pm

LOVE home made peanut butter- we usually get the natural stuff!! Your kids are soo cute. Watching Little House on The Prairie and realizing what used to happen all the time- yep- they are capable of sooo much more than we even think of!

Alison - May 19, 2010 - 9:00 pm

Oh my goodness, that looks sooo good! I love, love, love peanut butter! Looks so much better than the reduced-fat Jif that we buy! Ha! Have never even thought about making my own peanut butter…will have to try it sometime!

april - May 19, 2010 - 10:58 pm

oh wow my friend…that looks SO yummy! I have had natural peanut butter from the stores but NEVER made my own! Lord willing, if I get to go to Africa next year I want to buy one of those things!

Natali - May 19, 2010 - 11:25 pm

Chrystal - May 20, 2010 - 10:06 am

This whole post just made me smile.. and I simply *must* try making peanut butter with my girls this weekend, looks like fun. I LOVED the picture of little Laney when she had had enough & was just flat out pooped! 🙂 and little FRANK?…. oh, what a little machine he is. 🙂 LOVE it…. TOTALLY made me smile!!!!… Praying for you hard over here & just wanted you to know…. and I won’t stop until that sweet baby is in your arms. ((hugs))…

Living on the front lines…

A wise woman once told me that if I am not experiencing spiritual warfare in my life…then something is wrong. Why? Well, simply because that would mean that I am not a threat to the enemy. OK…I just lost some people. But it’s true. As much as I know that God is real—I also believe […]

i loveloveLOVE this post! thanks for the great encouragement. I’m moving out on the mission field next January [for at least a year, praying about a lifetime]. Thank you sososo much!! :))

Megan - May 11, 2010 - 4:41 pm

Thank you for these encouraging words.

Jenny - May 11, 2010 - 8:11 pm

VERY very good!! The most opposition I’ve ever faced was when I traveled to Rwanda to teach. I also always find opposition at work as a teacher! Ugghhh!! I feel that I constantly battle with others, which I know it’s satan using them, but it’s so draining! Love the post!

Angie Walter - May 11, 2010 - 8:46 pm

OH ANDREA! How I needed this today! I haven’t been able to follow any blogs lately but stumbled upon yours just now and whoa…you have no idea how I needed to read this! – Satan is trying to bog me down with the day to day worries and chores, etc…instead of enjoying my precious, rowdy, messy, silly boys! Thank you for letting God speak through you!

Rebekah - May 11, 2010 - 9:03 pm

Wow! This post is truly fitting! I’ve felt God impressing this on my heart lately but seeing it in words has really opened my eyes! We are at a huge crossroad and I can’t see how God is going to work everything out… but He IS! You truly have a gift for writing! Thank you for sharing!

april - May 11, 2010 - 9:26 pm

amen! amen! amen! We have been touching on that a little in our daniel study by beth moore at church and it’s so true! Thanks for this reminder but most of all thanks for the encouragement and hope found in God’s word that we can cling to through our times and through the journeys God calls us to!

Alison - May 11, 2010 - 10:59 pm

Andrea, thanks so much for these encouraging words! We have just started this journey and already the enemy has started his attacks. It was the same way when we were transitioning into full time ministry. It is hard, but it encourages us b/c we know this means we are truly in God’s will. We know that satan would leave us alone if we were just sitting still doing our own thing. We are truly putting on our armour everyday!

kristi johnson - May 11, 2010 - 11:21 pm

awesome….great post, kj

toni kuguru - May 12, 2010 - 5:24 am

Andrea, I stumbled upon this website via the update in the former 30 something mailing. I’ve been sitting here for almost an hour reading all of your old posts. What an amazing journey you have been on, and this is ONLY the beginning 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for your family of 6!

Kameron Shadrick - May 12, 2010 - 11:13 am

Thanks so much for this post! Ever since we began the adoption, the spiritual battle has intensified. But lately it has gotten worse and more personal. Basically, my BFF won’t support our adoption because of some very, very selfish reasons on her part – I could not believe what she was saying. I am trying to not be bitter and have been praying that God heal us and help me move on. But it is eating me alive and stealing my joy. I feel defeated. Then, just this morning I went to your blog and read this post! It has totally convicted and encouraged me. Although I know that we are in the right, I must call her and reconcile. I must truly forgive her. Thanks for the Spirit led post. It was a blessing.

The sweetest gifts of all…

I have A LOT of faults (serious procrastinator, always—ALWAYS late…but I REALLY want to be early, hate cleaning, serious daydreamer and believe it or not…I have a REALLY hard time expressing my feelings…just to name a few). BUT I do have one strength that amazes my hubby and it’s my mad skill for remembering gift […]

LOVE this! And so true, you can expect the unexpected for sure! Some of the most generous donations have been from people I barely know.

melissa - May 8, 2010 - 6:27 pm

Hey, I was wondering about the fellowship…we need to have an event soon. It would be neat to hang out with other people around the Atlanta area that have the same heart for orphans as we do. We could meet at a park and have pot luck dinner. I know you have a lot on your plate, but maybe we can start thinking about it. Thanks for reminding me! So glad to be on this journey with you!

Alison - May 8, 2010 - 10:29 pm

Oh my goodness, I am in tears, thank you so much for sharing that! We have just now started our adoption process…application approved with AGCI on thursday…and that was so good for me to read! I know that my blog friends are going to be so special to me…they already are…they are the ones that God used to inspire me to adopt!! I am so thankful!!!

Jenny - May 8, 2010 - 11:29 pm

so beautiful! you’re so right… it’s not for the faint of heart! i don’t know what i’d do without all my adoption buddies… you all are the greatest!

Shannon - May 9, 2010 - 12:50 am

Thank you for the encouragement as we are just beginning the journey! Love the quilt….how beautiful~ Happy Mother’s Day!

The day that you read the sparrow story and how your heart was aching and to see how the sparrow is sent from a friend as a messenger to you and your family that He is with you all through each and every moment ! What exciting times and how loved that little man,Isaac is going to be by his siblings and parents !

Jenn - May 6, 2010 - 7:13 pm

In tears…so thankful for our friendship. Of course I knew about the sparrow 😉 Ok…ok…I can’t take credit for that but when I opened the drawer and pulled out that card I smiled. I have always loved birds. And it seemed to fit. Now I know why 🙂

Hope you will both have MANY nights of snuggles under the blanket!!

Jenn

cris - May 6, 2010 - 9:06 pm

Love it all. And that is just like Elle J, LOVE HER TO BITS.

Got my calendar marked for your court date. Praying already.

Elle J - May 6, 2010 - 11:13 pm

Smiles, Loves, and Hugs to you and your sweet family. =) While I may not be currently called to adopt, I know I am called to pray and help in ways that I can. To say I have learned SO MUCH from all of the adoption momma’s (you, Cris, Dash’s Momma, Kristi) is a huge understatement. BLESSED beyond measure for the volumes of smiles and learning I receive from your examples. Praying for all, My Sweet Friend!!!
