God of wonders…

I’ve been singing that song in my heart this week. I’m reminded again His ways are not our ways this week in such a beautiful way. The Lord has been ever present showing us a new, surprising, but beautiful path for our family. I will share soon–but there truly is nothing more sweet than saying ‘yes’ when you hear His voice. Momma might be MIA for a bit as we are not only crazy with our dailies (are your dailies as crazy as mine?!)–but as we also are busy preparing for what we feel the Lord leading us to next for our family.

A crazy praise–I have had the worst time with vision in one of my eyes this past year. I returned to the eye doctor today to discover I had 20/15 vision:). Seriously??? Not only does the Lord restore–but it’s what my doctor calls better than perfect vision. Six months ago one was 20/60…then a few weeks ago it was 20/40–then 2 days ago it was 20/30. And TODAY 20/15!? He did a visual field test to be sure there wasn’t something else causing the change–but it was perfect–so we’ll just call it a miracle and leave it at that.

Ok…be back soon y’all. Please be praying for God’s hand to be over the path He is leading us on. And if doors continue to open–I hope to share in the weeks ahead too:)

Blessings!

Oooohhh! This is gonna be goooood!! Praying! Love you!!!!

Henry’s surgery is completed (and funded!)

We received this email from Stacy in Zambia:

Henry Swanzi is out of surgery! Praise God! The doctor estimated 40
minutes for surgery but it ended up taking three hours because once
they got in, they realized that the muscles were torn as well the
break taking place through his growth plates. The doctor installed to
wire pins through both bones on the inner and outer parts of his wrist
to reconnect them.

Henry and I spent the night last night in the hospital together.
There were a few small problems but the night went well. Henry finally
got to eat around 22 hrs for the first time and everything stayed
down. The doctor arrived this morning to check him at 07:30 and Henry
was discharged with a sling, pain medication, and minimal procedures
from here. So, we loaded the car and headed for home. Shortly after
getting on the road Henry began getting sick. We are almost home and
will stop in Mary Begg for them to check him out and to drop off
papers before returning him home. Henry will be going to Mary Begg on
Monday to get his wraps taken off and cleaned and then he will receive
another x-ray on the 25th of October before having to return to Lusaka
on the 26th to get the wire removed for a final check up.

Thank you all for praying for us and please continue to pray for
healing as the next few weeks may continue to be tough for him. I
will continue checking on him and keep you posted on his progress.
Thanks Again!

HOW THANKFUL we are to your being there to watch over him and even stay with him Stacy!!! No little one should have to have surgery without a momma figure to spend the night with you in the hospital!!! Here is little Henry after surgery:

Henry REALLY NEEDED to have this surgery ASAP. Doing so–meant we needed to have the surgery BEFORE it was funded. I wrote the blog post last week about this need hoping and praying we’d get his surgery funded–but we didn’t get much feedback. Wiphan made the decision to step out in faith and have this need met without having the funding yet (medical surgeries for the kids are outside of our regular operating budget and something we don’t have room for yet). But we didn’t want to see the same thing happen to Henry that happen to Mary–who now needs a corrective surgery as her break was not corrected and her bones are now fused together. You can read about her need in that last blog post. (This need is STILL there–so please share this with your small groups, family, friends, blogs–where ever for Mary!)

TODAY–our family worked the ministry fair at our church…isn’t Loo bear the cutest representative??

There is NOTHING SWEETER than doing things like this as a family. Your kids catch the vision and mission–and their hearts grow more compassionate. Can’t WAIT to take them with us one day!!! Here is Loo and momma getting ready to answer questions and share about Wiphan kids…it was really bright out there today…hard to look at the camera!

We had LOTS of families interested in going on trips in 2013 (YAY!) and lots of folks interested in being a part of the 2013 Wiphan Waddle! We even had someone ask about how to sponsor a child–just $39 a month…a big but life changing commitment that will change your family as you invest in an orphan–one you can even go visit and spend a week loving on. TO ME…just ONE person asking a question is worth it as ONE person investing can make such a big difference. Whether it’s Wiphan or another ministry that works with orphans–your life will BE FOREVER CHANGED when you plug in…I mean REALLY PLUG IN to an orphan ministry. Getting plugged in for life with an orphan ministry will change your life even more than adoption or anything else. It will change your comfort level–change how your family connects and change even the hearts of your children. You will hear it in their words and in their prayers.

And AS IF the handful of folks interested in getting plugged in wasn’t enough–which is HUGE…one precious family came to ask about Henry and his surgery. We shared how it was still a need and how Wiphan went ahead to have it done–and together they made the decision to cover his surgery! SO THANKFUL and amazed at what God can do through one family saying yes to Him. Never underestimate how God can use your family to impact and change the lives of orphans!

Please join us in praying for Mary and that her surgery will also be covered! Thank Him with us for His provision over the 450 orphans–He always provides and I am always amazed at how He chooses to do so. If you have a creative idea in how to help with Mary’s surgery–join us in serving these kids…no matter how little or big–the Lord I know will bless the heart and purpose of the giver. Some are called to go while other to give. Thankful for Stacy who is already there and the 2 families now preparing to go for longterm. If you would like to get involved with Wiphan in any way–please connect with us through the Wiphan website! I hope to be able to share that Mary’s surgery is also covered in the weeks ahead!!!

Hope y’all are all having an amazing weekend!!!

Blessings!

Andrea

Hi My name is Jenna, and I came across your site. It is wonderful what your family is doing.
Your kids are beautiful princesses, handsome prince’s, cute blessings, special earthly angels, and precious gifts and miracles.
I was born with a rare life threatening disease, developmental delays, and 14 other medical conditions.

Here is a new poem I wrote, it’s called it takes courage:
It Takes courage to love
Like a dove
It takes courage to fight,
It takes courage to do what’s right
It takes courage to stay strong,
When things go wrong
It takes courage to write a song
It takes courage to live
It takes courage to give
It takes courage to fight this beast
It takes courage to be brave
It takes courage to smile and wave
It takes courage to keep positive
Keep on fighting!
It takes courage to win!

The Bond Adoption Families Share…

There is a bond that adoption families share that is almost indescribable. The journey takes years for many–and during that time you not only connect with other families also in the process…you learn terms that you’d have to define and spend forever explaining to the rest of the world…

USCIS fingerprints, dossier (dah-see-aye), LID, referral, court, expired this–updated that. It’s not the lingo though that builds your bond…anyone can learn vocabulary–but it’s the knowing and having experienced each of the crazy hoops you had to jump through, the months of paperwork (only weeks for your future times around!) and feeling of accomplishment you have when you hear the word “finalized home study”. You completely understand the ache in the wait–and how you could completely be in love with a child you’ve never even met. It’s having walked through orphanages leaving only with the one/s you came for…yet your heart longs for every child to experience family–you have both felt the joy in having a new child through adoption yet the loss of everything that comes with it as well…and you’ve prayed through and will always pray through how to walk through that loss as your child grows and has questions. You know the difficulty of connecting to your new one once you are home–and then the joy of every sweet breakthrough as your relationship with your new child grows. You totally get what a BIG DEAL the unsolicited hugs and “I love you’s” are…and you celebrate together through phone calls, emails and listservs. You know the Mama Bear moments where someone pokes too much into your sweet one’s story–and you experience much of the same…in new ways…although you live in different places, your stories look completely different and you might never even meet in person.

Adoption mommas seem to connect this way or that–whether through their blogs, Facebook, conferences or retreats. And when I saw my Facebook friend Mary Leigh–an adoption momma of 2 littles from Korea–was coming to town…we began messaging back and forth on Facebook. (I have to laugh that there are so many of my kids friends who live right here–but we’ve never had them over for dinner…maybe because the only thing we have in common is our child being the same age–and other than that…we might not have much to talk about..and we’d have some awkward silence:). Although I’m totally entertained by awkward silence–it’s not how I love to spend a Friday night. BUT one thing is for sure–get 2 adoption families together and you never run out of things to have in common or things to talk about!) The men can make fun of the wives and how they need to stay off Rainbow Kids–and the women…well–we talk about everything from our last journeys, where our hearts are leaning next…and fried chicken:) It was SO FUN meeting the Brown family and I’m so thankful they shared some of their family trip with us!

Here’s Mary Leigh and me…a little snap shot while we cooked fried chicken (YUM!)

Tonight was our regular “Dinner with the Dentons” night–so they joined us too. We had 10 kids ages 8 and under…such fun. I told Richard that this is what our backyard COULD look like if he wanted to keep going;)…NOTICE that there is a game of soccer AND a 2 year old on a battery operated tractor. Having a reckless tractor in the middle of the game truly does add a layer of excitement…

This one seriously makes me laugh with Parker and Mary Leigh’s husband, Nick, playing some serious soccer with so many other things going on too…

This one is just thrown in as extra. Is he seriously not the cutest?!

The tractor pack…

Laney and the Brown’s teenage exchange student from China parked it inside playing pick-up sticks and such. Laney LOVES playing with big girls…they had such fun together!

Oh my–I’m just in love with this toothless grin!

THEN–we ended the night with s’mores. YUM. Seriously–I have no shame. I fixed my s’more first before sharing my stick with my children:) Hey–they always say to put your oxygen mask on first:)

Brown family–we absolutely LOVED our night with y’all and loved meeting y’all in real life! I can’t wait to see you in March at Created for Care…and so thankful for this fun time with our families! Your sweet boy made quite the impression on Rico Suave;).

NOW…I have IKEA cinnamon rolls to look forward to in the morning thanks to Mary Leigh:)

Y’all have a great weekend!!

Blessings!

Andrea

P.S. Rico Suave has been out of town ALL week!!! SO thankful to have him walk in the door tonight!!! It’s gonna be a GREAT weekend!

So true that adoptive families connect on so many levels! Will your adoption support groups/friends be doing anything special for Adoption month in November? http://nineyearpregnancy.wordpress.com/2012/07/25/doing-something-special/

Immediate Need Caring for Orphans in Zambia…

It was brought to my attention recently via our amazing Stacey Ernvall who is in Zambia serving Wiphan that there are two immediate needs concerning 2 most precious orphans at the school. Outside of our operating budget, we must raise funds for specific needs like these–so we want to ask those of you reading this to please consider reposting, sharing and praying for these two needs. These sweet children have no means of paying for these injuries to be treated–but they do have us…believers who hear, who are want to do something and can creatively help in some way. Will you join me in praying how the Lord might want to use each of us in some way to care for these children?

1. The first need is for little Henry Swazi…

Here is the report we received this week on Henry from Stacey:
Henry Swazi, Grade 5, was playing futbol during lunch break. He went to kick the ball and slipped on the top of the ball. He landed palm down and broke both bones on the inner and outer parts of his wrist. He was taken straight to Mary Begg to be looked at, and they tried to re-set his wrist bones but they were not able to because it is such a severe break. He was referred out to a specialist, Dr. Simzanza, in Lusaka at Italiah Hosptial. Tomorrow morning at 08 hrs we will meet with the doctor to see if they can put him under and re-set the wrist or if he will need surgery to install metal pins to keep his bones together. Henry is currently home with a partial cast and preparing for the trip tomorrow morning to Lusaka with Donald and I. Wiphan would like to raise $1,500USD to cover the cost of the procedures. The health provider requires payment before service is performed.

Please feel free to share this need–and if you or someone you know would like to contribute toward Henry’s medical need–you can give (it is tax deductible) online through Wiphan by going to the donate page at www.wiphan.org and choose “General Needs” and then type “Henry’s Medical Need” in the comments section. (I will post if and when this need is fully funded–so until you hear otherwise…keeping praying for this need to be met. THANK YOU!)

It is SO important that Henry’s wrist is properly corrected so the same thing that happened to Mary doesn’t happen to Henry. If extra funds are raised for Henry, they will be used to help Mary Banda’s arm that was broken and healed improperly get mobile again. Which brings us to…

2. The second need is for little Mary Banda…

Here is the report received from Kevin Jones on his recent trip on Mary:
Little Mary is an orphan living with her grandmother. Mary attends Wiphan’s Mapalo School. Her arm broke, and it was not looked at. The bones in her arms did not mend correctly and now she CANNOT move her arm. Attached are pictures of her arm. Wiphan has taken Mary to Mary Begg for diagnosis. The x-rays show the procedure to correct this injury can be done but needs to be done in Lusaka. The total cost for correcting this injury is $3,500USD. Please let your friends know about this and see if they can be the hands and feet of Jesus in Mary’s life by donating funds to get this procedure done.

Here is what Mary’s arm looks like all the time–unable to be moved:

Please feel free to share this need–and if you or someone you know would like to contribute toward Mary Banda’s medical need–you can give a tax deductible donation online through Wiphan by going to the donate page at www.wiphan.org and choose “General Needs” and then type “Mary’s Medical Need” in the comments section. (I will post if and when this need is fully funded–so until you hear otherwise…keeping praying for this need to be met. THANK YOU!)

If extra funds are raised for Mary, then they can go toward Henry’s medical need. BUT I will post when each are fully funded if that miraculously happens!

Thank you for praying for these needs and helping us make these needs known on behalf of the kids at Wiphan in Zambia. We have some exciting news that TWO families will be heading over to serve full-time there in the near future–so we’ll be sharing soon how YOU GUYS can all be apart of that also very soon as well!!!

If you have any questions about Henry or Mary–please send them my way and if I can’t answer them–I’ll forward them to Stacey who is on the ground.

I’m going to get her to snag some pictures of Henry and Mary–so if you are praying for them or you are one of those led to be a part of their medical help–I will post them and you can print them off to pray for them too! Thank you to everyone who joins us in some way for caring for these…whether it’s making the need known, giving or praying!!!

Blessings…and on behalf of Wiphan Zambia–thank you!

Pumpkin fun…

Taking this crew to the pumpkin patch brought lots of smiles on Saturday…

Just so you know–my youngest is no longer cooperating for pictures. ALL of my children did this at his age because momma takes way too many pictures. But you have to admit–it’s still pretty cute:)

If you don’t have pumpkin farms in your parts…you must see this one. Burt’s. My favorite.

You grab a wheel barrow and the kids go nuts piling in their favorite pumpkins of all sizes.

Then you parade around trying to snap cute pictures of your littles all over the pumpkins–but you have to constantly tell them not to sit on them because we all know that’s a pumpkin farm rule:) I mean–that’s somebody else’s pumpkin. And then you get home and download the pictures–and you have to play around with them because the up close ones all have a orange tent from reflecting off their faces:) LOVE this old timey look with these two…

The boys…

And by girl…

Laying across the pumpkin is no better than sitting on one. It was just too tempting though!

Then we rode the hayride…my handsome boys…

Some hayrides are scary–but not Burt’s. You ride out in a decorated pasture–and then you stop to meet the BIG pumpkins. They tell the story of how being a pumpkin is like being a child of God:

Normal people go home after that kind of day. But the Youngs–we like to push the limits. Now after a day like that…if you really want to laugh–you take this crew to the corn maze…

Now if you are really crazy–you actually let a group like this LEAD you through a corn maze (do not try this one folks…you’ll be lost in this for hours!)

After getting lost for hours…with tiny ones who didn’t nap that day who decide they are scared of being lost in corn, you might even search the map they gave you at the entry for a help hotline…consider calling 9-11…think about just making a mad run THROUGH the corn husks until you eventually exit…AND then you eventually turn around because you decided listening for voices coming through will be easier than going deeper…and you are PERFECTLY fine not finishing and just coming out of the exit:)

NOT that I’m speaking from personal experience or anything;)…

Here’s to getting several really fun things checked off our Fall bucket list this weekend!!! So much fun!

Hope y’all are having a great week!

xoxo,

Andrea
