Back from Created for Care retreat…

We’re baaaaaaccccckkkkk!

Me and my small group mommas Angie, Laura and Kimberly…they ALSO 3 of my dearest adoption mommas friends. LOVE doing life with these girls!!

It was an amazing weekend! I truly felt the Lord leading and guiding all the way through it. How wonderful it is to step back in a room of over 400 moms who share your calling and heart…and worship the Lord together.

So thankful for my non-adoption mommas who came to simply love and serve this weekend. This weekend would not be possible without them!! HOW I LOVE Y’ALL!!! Not everyone is called to adopt–and I’m so blessed to have friends who give of themselves in service to moms who are called to grow their families in this way. What a testimony they are to me!!! They calling is so holy to me!!! EACH of them have cared for our family so much in our own personal adoption journey, and it melts me to see them still serving! (Thank you girls!)

One thing we have A LOT of moms approach us about is having a retreat CLOSER to their cities. What we don’t always share is that we TRIED to have the March one in California or Texas and it would have been more than TWICE as much in cost. We are still praying about another location–and hoping we can find something affordable. Currently we only have to charge $165 for the weekend registration fee–and moms can split their rooms (at a rate of just $109 per night) up to 4 ways making it REALLY affordable. The $140 of the $165 registration fee covers food and transaction costs (Paypal’s $5 charge)–and the other $25 buys their tee, mug, bag and materials. We still have to raise about $20,000 so we can keep their costs this low (really the registration fee should be $230 each–but we LOVE keeping it so much lower as many travel far to get here!) In order to raise the money we would need to BREAK EVEN this weekend, we bought LOTS of fun things to sell!

We sell PJS…

And sweatshirts…

TShirts, journals and mugs…

And oh how the Lord provided!!! We knew we’d probably be several thousand dollars short…yet Christy, April and I were at peace knowing and believing ultimately He would provide. On the LAST night of the retreat I was having dinner when a donor who has encouraged us since the beginning showed up and handed me a check that would cover ALL OUR EXPENSES for the weekend and even put us ahead for the March retreat!!! I had a table FULL of precious moms and I sat there SPEECHLESS and overwhelmed with God’s perfect provision…a reminder HOW MUCH He loves and cares for these adoption moms and that He is in this and will continue to provide!

The weekend was TRULY amazing…and it was so much fun (I even break-danced on stage for everyone…yes–it’s true! I have the DVD and I’ll try my best to post that clip soon for you so you can see my skills;).

We are overwhelmed with JOY for all the Lord has done, all He IS doing and all He will do. We can’t WAIT for the March retreat!!! Hold on to your seat belts ladies…you are in for quite a ride! We’re even tweaking a few sessions after receiving feedback from the January retreaters to make March EVEN BETTER…as if that is even possible!

Thank you to all of you who joined us…who stepped out in faith with us! We love you all so much…and we are so encouraged by all of you!

Love,

Andrea

Just wanted to let you know that I had such an amazing experience at C4C retreat. I truly felt God’s presence and heard Him speak to me. Thank you so much for all you and your team did to create this retreat. Looking forward to applying what I learned and claiming NOT ONE of my children will fall away from the Lord.

Thank you!

Jessica

You girls ROCK! The weekend surprised my wildest dreams. Finally meeting you face to face was like meeting my long lost little sister. Feeling so blessed that I was the one sitting next to you at dinner when you received the check. Truly a gift from above.
Love & Blessings, “HK” Kim

Kait - January 31, 2012 - 9:00 am

I wanted to approach you all weekend to tell you thank you for putting all this together. I can’t tell you how much this weekend ministered to my heart. I had told my husband before I left for Atlanta that I was almost afraid of what God would reveal to me this weekend because I was afraid it would require me to step off the path I thought we had.

And God did ask me to. Through your story of being told to wait (while my heart said “See. You’re not the only one He does that to.”) and the quiet moments I had to pray I recognized so much of God’s guidance in my life that I’ve been ignoring because it didn’t work with what I wanted Him to be calling me to. Thank you for the retreat and the reminder to listen and the reassurance that He’s not misspeaking when He tells me to be still.

Alison - January 31, 2012 - 1:26 pm

Andrea, you are just such a BLESSING!!! The weekend was absolutely amazing! It was just what I needed in the middle of our long adoption wait! THANK YOU for your willingness, obedience and sacrifice to do what God has called you to do! He is using to touch so many lives…including mine! Love ya, sweet friend!

Kaylyn - January 31, 2012 - 7:45 pm

I am so thankful you were obedient and started Created For Care! I have not yet been, but am praying it works out that I can get there in March! It sounds like it was an amazing retreat and a blessing to so many! Praise God!!

Rory - January 31, 2012 - 11:18 pm

Andrea,
Just wanted to stop in and say a huge thank you. Really. It was worth flying across the country and God did so many things for me this weekend. I knew you were super busy and probably handling more than we could ever imagine behind the scenes, so I didn’t say as much in person but definitely wanted to follow up here and let you know I heard nothing but positive comments from full and thankful hearts.
God bless.

Shelly Roberts - February 1, 2012 - 8:12 pm

LOVE this update. ๐Ÿ™‚ PRAYED for all the amazing mommas attending and those serving so faithfully behind the scenes. What a sweet reminder of His GOODNESS that HE CARES not only for the ones that were said YES to, but also the MOMMAS who said YES.

Jenny Marrs - February 3, 2012 - 10:52 am

Another miracle!!!

Praise God for another miracle! Please be in prayer for Margret as a very BIG, critical surgery is underway!!! God is so good…

Miracle 1: July mission trip meets Margret–and sees she is in desperate need of surgery on her leg (2 tumors with infection making it almost impossible for her to walk.

Miracle 2: For Margret’s entire life–she has believed she was cursed…children around her believed she was cursed…YET she shines. We get to tell her that this is NOT a curse of witches–but JESUS loves her–and after a doctor’s visit we learn she has 2 tumors. Wiphan educates her mom that Margret isn’t cursed–but she needs surgery…that will save her life!

Miracle 3: We get the total it will take to have Margret’s surgery. Wow. A lot. We tell Margret’s sponsor family–their daughter…a young girl Margret’s age…RAISES the money to save Margret’s life and have the surgery performed.

Miracle 4: We learn the surgery unit of the hospital can’t do the surgery. They will have to complete the unit–who knows when that will be. Word comes later the unit will be completed late December. SURGERY IS SCHEDULED AND ON!

Miracle 5: Happened today: READ AND FOLLOW THE REST OF THE MIRACULOUS STORY HERE!

Please visit www.wiphan.org to learn how YOU can join us in being a part of miracles for orphans and widows all over the world. Why would you want to live a normal life–when you can experience a miraculous one?

Godbumps here – love this post!!! God shines always through this miracle named Margret. Praying with you, Andrea.

Sandi - January 25, 2012 - 9:25 am

Praying for God to use Margret to show all of the nonbelievers that HIS power is real. It is so hard on the heart to see this precious little one suffering & to know the scorn that she has faced. Yet still her light shines. Praying for every person who surrounds this little girl to love her & to be touched by God’s hand so that they too will believe in him. Praying the infection to disappear & for miraculous healing! Praying for redemption & acceptance for her!

Pray for Margret!!! Today is the day!

Remember the precious little girl in Zambia who desperately needs surgery??? How we love Margret!

We shared her story–and her sponsored family joined Wiphan in helping to raise support for her surgery. She has two tumors in her leg, and because they were never removed they have caused infection and dead tissue. The tissue could probably be removed and she could have reconstructive surgery here–but in Africa…it looks a little different. They will remove the tumors so she will not go crippled and she can continue to use her leg–and it won’t get any worse. It is harder for her to pick up–but SHE keeps going and even tries to play! This has effected how her peers she her–but she is a strong and amazing girl…and we are believing big things for her. We are also praying the tumors are not cancerous. Please pray with us…and you can follow the rest of the story as our intern Kristen walks this path alongside her on her blog: http://kristincoleen.com/2012/01/23/pray-for-margert/

Our intern Kristin is amazing–and she left her job last year as a school teacher to move over and serve Wiphan. She is in her twenties and…she got offered her dream job to coach basketball on the college level JUST before she left. Tempting to say the least! Yet she said no…the Lord was calling her to serve orphans and widows…and she is now serving Wiphan in Ndola, Zambia. Y’all sign up to follow her blog–you will be so blessed! Please also keep Kristin in your prayers as she helps shape the ministry and love on the orphans and widows we serve. It’s a huge responsibility and we think she is doing an amazing job!!! We love you Kristin!!!! Please give Margret a hug from me–and know we are praying with you!

Valentine Blessing Cookies!!!

SOO…if you have been reading my blog for awhile–then you will remember the VALENTINE BLESSING COOKIES! Now, I see no need to try and reinvent the wheel when we get so much sweetness out of this year after year!!! SO, I’m reposting the instructions for what we do for Valentine’s beginning in just 11 short days–all the way to Valentine’s day to share the love! I’m posting this NOW–because if you want to do this you need to complete this project THIS week as you start it on February 1st and give each of your littles ONE cookie EACH day leading up to Valentines! SO…here’s what we do…and the post from last year:

I LOVE holidays. Love them. And although many bark that many holidays are commercialized–I like to use holidays like Valentine’s to love on my crew and create traditions with our family. I’m SO EXCITED about Valentine’s day that I’ve already got my materials for every February craft…and because we’ll start this one on the 1st of February—I just *HAD* to share today for those of you who just MIGHT want to do it too! Here’s my inspiration for the month of February for ya…

“Valentine BLESSING Cookies”

Valentines Craft 023 copy
This is a set of 28 fortune cookies. 14 (red) for Parker. 14 (pink) for Laney. I’ll be adding white ones for Frankie baby AND yellow for Isaac. The “cookies” are made out of felt, wire and glue. That’s IT. And guess what is inside each one? There are 7 Bible verses proclaiming the Lord’s truth and LOVE to the littles AND THEN there are 7 statements of love and affirmation from me (& Rich too of course;). Beginning on February 1st, each day each child will get to choose one from our cookie jar in their special color to start off their day leading up to Valentine’s! Be sure to make it NOW so you can lead up to February 14th each day starting on the 1st!

1. You will need approximately 5 pieces of 8×11 felt per child (each piece will make 3 4-inch circles and I also chose to do all of my son’s in red and my daugther’s in pink just to make sure the boy doesn’t get some of the more cheesy love notes from me…he doesn’t do cheese;), florist wire, hotglue (regular glue works too–but not as good) and printed “fortunes”. Also–use the SOFT felt. I tried everything from the thicker felt to foam–and the softer felt folds into cookies best.

2. Draw 4-inch circles on felt and cut out.

3. Cut florist wire the diameter/length of your circle. Apply hot glue in a straight line down the center and carefully press wire in hot glue…Valentines Craft 010 copy(You can also use pipe cleaners and Elmer’s glue if you don’t have florist wire or hot glue BUT florist wire and hot glue work BEST)

4. Cut 4 x 1/2 inch strips of felt to hot glue OVER the wire…(this keeps the wire from showing when you fold your cookies as you will be able to slightly see the center)Valentines Craft 016 copy

5. Create your “fortunes” or use mine.
Valentines Craft 018 copyValentines Craft 019 copy

6. Fold the circle in half (wire in center) and carefully bend the wire sideways to create a fortune cookie! If you have older children then you can probably get away with displaying them on your coffee table in a really fun way…Valentines Craft 022 copy(AND you can use this year after year! How fun would this also be to do when you travel and you have to be away from your kiddos for them to get “love notes” from you each day while you are away!)

Unfortunately…that display would last 10 minutes in my house! So…until they are bigger—we’ll display our cookies appropriately in a cookie jar!

Valentines Craft 024 blog
FUN, fun, fun! Aren’t those ADORABLE!?.

THESE are the Valentine’s my kids sent out a couple of years ago??? HOW FUN IT THIS…

SOOOO these are called “Get Well Valentines!” because you know kids LOOOVE some bandaids…and they seem to always have boo-boos! We played nurse and doctor dress up (found a nurse hat tutorial online!), and today I “tagged” them! They are ALL ready for tomorrow’s Valentine’s! The back of these say “Packaged for my Valentine” with the contents (chapstick, love bandages, organic cough drops, etc)

How fun is Laney-loo in her nurse’s hat…

Parker-man and I made a doc hat…
IMG_0560 copy

And we couldn’t resist asking Frank to participate that year too…this is when we were WAITING for our referral of our sweet little man…
IMG_0562 copy

And if putting together a little doc/nurse survival Valentine is just too much for you…you can always play dress up and put together a quick little one like this…IMG_0570 copy

How fun are the bandaids?!…IMG_0439

These would make fun little treats for you to give your little ones—but if you decide to do this craft together and you have little ones like me, I recommend buying some fun Valentine stickers that they can use to decorate some bandaids…IMG_0454_1[Our stickers would some times go over the bandaid edge—just take a pair of scissors and carefully trim the sides trimming the extra sticker off.]

And DON’T FORGET…just after Valentine’s…is LENT! I can’t WAIT! If you missed my post on a unique and powerful way to celebrate Lent and the resurrection with your family, click here!

Between now and Lent you can start your stick collecting and follow our Lent plan (up there). It’s so sweet…and so POWERFUL!!!!!!! This is what our Lent Tree always looks like…just so you know what to prepare for if you want to join us (a vase, twigs and white paint is all you need!)

IMG_1044
OUR LENT TREE

And of course you’ll want to start collecting your ornaments now so you have them all ready for Lent come mid-February. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST MEANINGFUL THINGS WE DO WITH OUR CHILDREN. PERIOD!!! AND THEY LOOOOOVE IT! Every ornament prepares them for EASTER…Jesus’s crucifiction, burial and RESURRECTION!!! Each ornament represents a Bible story that foreshadows and connects to Christ…and His purpose in our lives!!!

Ok…so there ya have some crafts and such to keep ya busy!!! AND to engage your kiddos! Hope you all have a great week!

XOXO!

Andrea

SUCH FUN ideas!!! I am gearing up around here to create some new traditions with my little ones. ๐Ÿ™‚ LOVED doing hands-on when my guys were all little. Big guys need affirmed too! Thinkin’ we’ll have to try those cookies. ๐Ÿ™‚ Might have to make up something edible to go along for the big guys. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can’t wait to take a closer look at your Lent activities!

Naleigh Moon {Beautiful Adoption Video}

Every since we met Katherine Heigl when Frankie baby made his debut in her film “Life as We Know it” (you can read about that crazy fun here), we’ve been Heigl fans. We got to talk adoption at the post filming dinner party–and it was such fun as we were waiting for our referral of our rockstar Isaac! Man…how time flies!

Here is the new video that will melt your heart of her hubby Josh Kelly. LOVE this…(but I confess—it also makes MY HEART HURT as I still long to bring home our daughter from China!!)

AMAZING.

Love, love, love this!

An update on momma Young…still waiting:-). My rheumatologist on Friday ruled OUT Sjogren’s and Lupus!!! Yep–although I have a positive SSA and SSB–those are now ruled out. He thinks Lyme’s can be ruled out too–but my other doctor who ran a test called CD-57 and saw my score of 50 said that he is fairly sure I have Lyme’s. I’ve been treated for Lyme’s for 3 months now–and honestly, I’m just now starting to feel some of the difference. I truly have felt your prayers–THANK YOU! Rico Suave got me a FAR infrared sauna which is supposed to help with arthritis, joints, auto-immune disorders and even kill spirochetes (in Lyme). He is an amazing husband and will stop at nothing to make sure I am well. I AM THANKFUL. So–I’ve been having my quiet time in my FAR infrared sauna and oddly since I’ve been doing that my vision is better and I’ve had less eye problems. Still gluten-free too. I’m really hopeful that in a few months I’ll be running marathons around my kids–and feeling better than I have in years. I am HOPEFUL:).

Now…to get ready for one of the rockin’ adoption momma retreat of 2012!!!!

PEACE OUT.

Bless you so much. You have been an inspiration for so many and we know this is “not fun” so, hoping that you remain strong and healthy as you take it dya to day. Father Lopez today asked the students to memorize that LIGHT IS THE SHADOW OF GOD….I have thought about that al day and just love the message and wanted to share with you !

Kim - January 20, 2012 - 12:09 am

Oh my … I am officially undone. Beautiful.

Jenny - January 20, 2012 - 11:13 am

Hi Andrea! Just wanted to comment on the fact that that was a beautiful song and video!! Thanks for sharing!! And, how fun that Frank was in that movie- it was a cute one!

Praying that you are feeling better soon and they can find some answers…my hubby had lyme disease too. It is awful and takes its toll on your body.

Melissa - November 7, 2013 - 8:24 pm

I was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease and a friend of mine sent me to your blog. I see that this post is from a while ago and was just wondering if you’d be willing to offer up and advise or hope.
