And I actually use to buy Diet Dr.Pepper on a grocery run {5 months of detox}

Toxin detox that is.

Really, it’s no wonder this mom got Lyme disease AND auto immune disorders. Seriously. I am–or WAS rather–your normal American mom. Wake up to coffee and a bagel. Rush out the door. Grab a Diet Dr.Pepper later with lunch…often something through the drive through (Chick-fil-a sandwiches are healthy…right?) and then a good old Southern casserole for dinner…with some veggie…a roll–and an occasional dessert.

Honestly, I thought I was healthy as long as I was eating because being a mom of 4 little ones–it wasn’t out of the ordinary to skip a meal and grabbing a filler snack later to hold me off until dinner.

Really, I’m kind of surprised I didn’t develop an auto-immune disease earlier or some other crazy illness. After getting Lyme and doing extensive research, I learned quite a bit. While some doctors aren’t up to date on the disease, the ones who are will tell you that you can actually contract Lyme from mosquitos and most everyone has been exposed. Unfortunately–it’s those of us with weaker immune systems that can’t fight it off ourselves and are eventually diagnosed with auto-immune diseases. The disease is rampant–ya think it’s a coincidence that 2 of my mom’s 3 children have Lymes? OR that out of my 3 roommates after college that 2 of us have been diagnosed? Nope. Not a crazy coincidence at all now that I’ve done the research. The overload of toxins in our bodies make it impossible to fight these things off leading to fatigue, fibromyalgia symptoms (muscle and body aches), joint problems, headaches, vision problems, muscle twitches/tingling and fog brain.

When my rheumatologist diagnosed me with Sjogren’s syndrome, I did my own research and finally proved to him that what was going on was more (or maybe less–however you want to look at it) than Sjogren’s. I asked “the best rheumatologist” in Hotlanta where these auto-immune problems start from–and WHY in the heck more and more of my generation is diagnosed than any other, and all he could say was that was a great question and no one knew. Nice. He sent me out the door with prescription to my pharmacy for this and that which I ripped into pieces before I made it to the parking lot…something just wasn’t sitting right with me. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made.(Psalm 139:14)

I went BACK to the homeopathic doctor who was the only doc to hit the nail on the head for what was really going on inside me–and he even sent me for blood work to amazingly prove it. I did NOT really have any auto-immune disorders…and praise the Lord that I didn’t start on the road of daily taking prescriptions to cover up the problems–many that weren’t caused by Lyme at all, but rather toxin overload.

I had my toxicity level measured–and this poor mom measured in at 12. Not so great. Five months later…I’m down to 5 with a goal of reaching optimal 4. The lower it gets, the better I feel–and all of this STILL has nothing to do with Lyme EXCEPT the lower my toxin level is the better by immune system is able to work and the closer I get to getting back to helping my body work the way that God created it to.

Our bodies were NOT made for sodas, refined sugar, artificial sugars/flavors/colors…or ANYTHING artificial for that matter. They were not created for processed foods, hormone containing meats/dairy, and certainly not for preservatives. And avoiding these things and many others that can lead to weakened immune systems, auto-immune disorders or other illnesses is NOT being extreme in the least–but you are caring for the body that the Lord gave you so you will not be the one determining how well it functions or how long it lasts but rather caring for it as it is a precious gift. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. 1 Corinthians 6:19

I love the heart behind the book The Maker’s Diet and Rubin’s story of how he was able to totally be cured of his Crohn’s disease by changing his diet and clearing out toxins. It’s really an AMAZING story!

I was just reading last night in my Lifetime magazine that it’s estimated 80% of Americans have severe Candida overgrowth in their systems leading to fatigue. Our homeopathic doctor found Candida in two of my children (some how I didn’t have it!) and I saw HUGE changes in both when it was cleared. In children it can lead to skin problems, ADD/ADHD symptoms, being thirsty a lot, craving sweets, etc.

Five months ago, this mom ate and functioned radically different. And more than anything it’s been clearing the toxins out of my body and not intentionally allowing more toxins in that has helped so much. (OF COURSE we live in SUCH a toxic world–you are bombarded DAILY with environmental toxins. It’s impossible to avoid toxins altogether, and that is why it is so important to avoid toxins in your food.)

As you research how to get rid of toxins, it can be VERY overwhelming. I started little by little. I was reading a lot of labels and doing a lot of research at first–which was often difficult with the fog brain problem I was having because I was a toxic landfill!

I began by tossing out anything that I put ON my body that was not organic and toxin free. Unfortunately, that meant for me tossing out all my shampoos, toothpastes, lotions and make-up. Although I wasn’t going to be EATING these things, because they were touching my skin–they were being absorbed in my body. All of my make-up unfortunately had things like talc, ethylacrylate, formaldehyde, etc. BEFORE, I just didn’t know–or I thought it wouldn’t really effect me. I started buying my make-up at Whole Foods or online OR on most days not even wearing it at all. I started using coconut oil for lotion (I now use coconut oil which is SO GOOD for you for just about anything! On a day I feel sluggish or suspect a parasite…then I eat it by the spoonful. PARASITES you ask? Um of COURSE! If you are eating healthy, it is some times impossible to get parasites off all your greens but as long as you are aware of your body and on a healthy probiotic you are most likely good to go!) I bought natural hair and skin care products–and honestly, I will never go back.

Yes, I did the hair, skin and make-up FIRST…I was dreading a toxin free diet;).

I drank my last diet soda in October 2011–which by the way…causes all kinds of problems. For goodness sake, have a large glass of sweet tea before you drink that stuff. It’ll take you down I tell you.

And then came everything else. I used to use FOOD COLORING for my fun little food crafts–and I’ve learned natural ways to color and keep my kids healthy in the process. Many children have a very hard time getting rid of toxins and these are the precious ones that usually struggle with attention problems (I used to have one of them). I bought water purification systems–I can’t BELIEVE I used to drink out of the faucet. I can actually SMELL the chlorine now when I turn the water on…which unfortunately kills all the healthy bacteria we NEED to fight off harmful bacteria in our systems–leading to immune problems (Have a child who seems to always get sick and you give him water from the faucet containing things like chlorine??? I think I might give mine my old diet soda before I gave him that…for real–at least it won’t kill the healthy bacteria.) KUDOS to Good Housekeeping who recently published an article HOW to keep your water safe–and THANK YOU Grandmother for giving me another year’s prescription to Good Housekeeping for Christmas this year;)

Getting RID of toxins I allow into my body was the first step–and the second was learning what I needed to get my immune system BACK on track to begin fighting for me again. I’ve never understood or really seen the depth of Psalm 139:14 until now. It’s AMAZING to watch how my energy, fatigue, etc is changing as I start to are for my body that He wonderfully and fearfully made for me to care for.

Now…I’m a Stevia fan (YES–I still have my coffee…but just 1 cup of java for me in the am). I have my quiet time in my FAR infrared sauna–that helps extract toxins from the body. I start my day with a protein shake and eggs…and of course my supplements that I need until momma makes a full recovery. I eat an avocado sandwich on gluten free bread almost every day…MY FAVORITE (not because I’m allergic to gluten but it’s harder for your digestive track to process and if you have inflammation or you are trying to get over something–you can take the stress off your gut and let your body apply it’s energy else where…helping you beat that afternoon fatigue!) And while veggies were not filling my frig a year ago–we eat them for snacks and at almost every meal now…it’s absolutely CRAZY how the Lord provided foods that can actually heal! The worst thing my kids now get in to now are my gluten-free pancakes with honey drizzled on top (I used to be faithful to old Aunt Jemima…but she’s gotta get these out: CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, WATER, CELLULOSE GUM, CARAMEL COLOR, SALT, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), ARTIFICIAL AND NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE for this mom to go back:). Seriously–THOSE are the ingredients in what I USED to give my kids!

In the end–I know I’m going to be SO THANKFUL that an auto-immune, Lyme or this or that came up in my mid-thirties. I really believe as I continue to wellness and trust in the Lord’s truths, power and strength–AND that He made my body fearfully and wonderfully that all of this will just be a thing of the past, and our family will be healthier, happier and more full of energy and life through it!

Blessings to you all!!!

i am eyeing the diet coke sitting next to the computer screen right now. i have known that we have a lot of bad habits for a long time, but i needed to have it put in the perspective of stewardship. thanks for sharing this with us. i needed to hear it. now i need to DO something about it. i am so happy you are feeling better!

Kim - March 9, 2012 - 3:03 pm

Andrea, have you tried “Juice Plus”, for your family? (No, I’m not selling it!) I just started this a month ago, and feel so much more energetic. I had just been so run down this winter and was always getting sick. A friend of mine talked me into trying this whole food based nutritional product from 17 different fruits, veggies and grains. Comes in a capsule. The kids love it too (they have chewables). I loved all the research behind the product. We try to eat healthy here, but every little bit helps. You should check it out!- Kim

YES!!! We did Juice Plus for YEARS…but stopped taking them last year when we found a kids supplement that also contains Vitamin D! Juice Plus didn’t have the recommended Vit. D dosage for our kids–and this crazy momma needed to kill as many birds as she could with 1 stone:)

Andrea,

I am so blessed and encouraged reading this! I feel like we have been leading parallel lives although my auto immune disease had been Hashimotos and thyroid issues which I really believe was the cause for ovarian cancer which I had when I was only 30! It was left untreated for years and can cause higher levels of estrogen in your body which causes cancer. Anyway, I am so with you and the toxic free diet. I have only just recently switched to organic face cream (love Pristine Beauty) and plan to throw out everything eventually for organic. I have been using aluminum free deodorants for 6 years but know I need to go whole hog. And even though I have been health freak junkie for the last 20 years, I know there are areas that I have compromised in. I have just switched to gluten free not because I am intolerant but because I have heard the benefits of this is you have an Auto-immune disease. I have been making gluten free cakes just with dates pureed for the sweetness for many years and love them! I am a real cake addict. Have you heard of Food Matters? They are really promoting healthy eating and have a movie you can sign up to watch for free which will be shown this month. It is very insightful for those who have no idea about the food they eat and what they are putting into their bodies.

Anyway, thanks for sharing and I look forward to meeting you in two weeks at C4C!!!

So glad to hear you are feeling better! I think about and pray for you often. Would you do a post sometime telling which brands you like of products (like your water system, makeup, stevia, etc). I am always trying to find the best natural brands and I hate to waste money by trying products that end up being duds. Would love your suggestions!

Julie Bennett - March 9, 2012 - 3:51 pm

Good post! So glad to hear that you’re feeling so much better. Thought of you yesterday as my younger ones were pushing their cart around Trader Joes…helping mom! I travel about 25 minutes to our nearest TJ. Hoping to get one closer soon. Andrea, what kid’s supplement do you give your kiddos?

Lauren - March 9, 2012 - 3:53 pm

you inspire me. and i love you. 🙂

admin - March 9, 2012 - 3:55 pm

OF COURSE LIZ!!! I’ll do a follow up post full of our favorite replacements and also supplements for both us and for the kids for sure!

Great info! Thanks so much for sharing all this! I also would love the product info for make up and anything else you have time to share.

Oh, I have to thank you for this post. I too have been on a path to natural living. And, let me tell you, in rural GA it’s hard. However, after having an episode today where my vision became very blurred and reading your post tonight, I am resolved to do better. Could you send me links to some of your research?
Blessings,
amy

I would love for you to do more posts just like this! I have an autoimmune disease-ulcerative colitis-which I’ve had for 10 years. I have times with no problems at all and then other times when every morning is spent in the bathroom. In the good times, I slack off on eating well and then wish I hadn’t when it returns. I would love to know exactly what products you are using and more specifics on the baby steps to take on a budget.

Tara - March 12, 2012 - 1:42 pm

Loved this post! We’ve been on a gluten free, sugar free diet since September, and it is changing our lives (we eat paleo)

Thanks for posting this – it’s so easy in this culture to poison yourself, and not even know it.

Hoping things continue to improve for you.

Month 5 – Momma Bear Goes to the Doctor

Doesn’t that sounds like a title for The Berenstain Bears?

Love those books by the way.

Today was a GREAT day.

Taught the kids school. Learned of minor catastrophe…which made me smile instead of panic because I know the Lord’s got it. I will NOT worry about the minors–or the majors. LOVED checking in with one of my VBFFs who retreat plans with me…she encourages me so and LOVE her perspective: When something doesn’t go through like you planned, it is an opportunity to see GOD work it out in a really amazing way.

I’m diggin’ that. Aren’t you??

{Side note: If you are like me and lactose-intolerant–you have GOT to try SO DELICIOUS ice cream with coconut milk. Seriously–eating this chocolate flavor right now…and it’s really hard to type a blog post when you have to stop every 4 words to take another bite. Oh my–SO stinkin’ good.}

After school, minor catastrophe news and settling down children at 1pm with babysitter–momma bear took off for lunch by herself…I have no shame to sit at a restaurant alone and eat (aka: peace and quiet) at Artisan…just heavenly!) Then I headed to the doc for a checkup.

I’m NOT gonna lie. I was secretly hoping I would hear that spirochetes (aka: Lyme bacteria) were wiped out. I have felt a complete turn around–and I wanted to hear that…but with little symptoms here and there…I knew probably not YET. So…today–I got my “not yet” from the doc…and that’s okay. So, this week marks officially 5 months of treating that stinkin’ bacteria–and I’m hopeful that as we pray to see 100% wellness this Lent…that at my next appointment I’ll be 100%!!!

The MOST AMAZING part of my doc visit today was having my doc look at me and ask, “Andrea–do you think this is more of a spiritual thing than a physical thing?”

“What do you mean I asked?”

He shared that he could see the Lord working greatly in my family’s life–and that as we continued to say YES to the Lord–there was obviously something that wants to slow us down or worse stop us.

I told him that NOW that he said that I felt like maybe I wouldn’t sound so crazy when I shared that I HAD felt that I kept hearing I just needed to stop everything…and the hard health stuff would just go away. BUT that was not from the Lord–and I knew His voice and we are going to continue to follow Him no matter what.

Then–that sweet doctor smiled–grinning from ear to ear and prayed the sweetest, most powerful prayer over me…right there in the doctor’s office.

I wish I had it recorded. The Holy Spirit was definitely present–and I know the Lord led me to this doctor to shepherd me to wellness. I am expectant and thankful…and even really, really excited. Now, if I could cancel my GI doc appointment on Monday I’d be even MORE excited…but some things just have to be done.

I was sharing with one of the staff at the doctor’s office today how THANKFUL I already am for this stinker disease that is going to soon be out of my body (believing this!). I had never faced the fear of being ill as a mom before. I never had to struggle with worry for myself or my children or the future. IT IS GONE! I never would have gotten the opportunity to REALLY BELIEVE and TRUST HIM in a way I think you only have the chance to when you struggle with health problems…literally asking Him for strength and joy and direction every single day. This is one of the greatest gifts—and I’m celebrating even this.

His Word says our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made. He is the Healer. He’s got this! Christy said it to me today about a minor crisis and it’s true here too: When something doesn’t go through like you planned, it is an opportunity to see GOD work it out in a really amazing way. And it’s EXCITING!

FAITH IS PERSPECTIVE.

It’s how you see things. And what you believe as you grasp them.

It’s believing…really believing God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do.

Faith is walking away from fear…from worry…from doubt…from the unknowns…and instead–claiming victory in Christ Jesus and standing up to say, “I can’t even stand it! I just can’t wait to see why the Lord is doing this and what will come out of it! Let YOUR will be done Lord!”

How thankful I am for those who stand with me. In the minors and the majors…believing God is up to something and expecting His miracles to take place!

May you trust Him greater in your minors and majors this week.

Blessings my friends…

Andrea

P.S. Frank Funny of the Week {to make you laugh}

I was acting out the story of Moses and the burning bush to the children the other night and they LOVE my impersonations of Moses and God. Moses’s voice quivers–while God’s voice gets deep, loud and strong. They giggled at first. Then they got serious…and their little mouths started hanging open at the story. I could tell Frank, our 3 year old, was really into it.

When I said in this deep, loud, strong voice, “MOSES! Take off your sandals! For the place where you are standing is holy ground. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob…”

Frank JUMPED UP, threw a fist in the air and shouted, “AND DA GOD OF FRANK!”

Awesomeness.

You just gotta love ’em!

Believe that your faith had a profound effect on that doctor. God is working on him through you. It is not every day that a physician feels free from the constraints of his profession to stop to pray with a patient. He was another “ripple” and he will pass on the story of your awe inspiring faith and speak to more hearts about how prayer heals. We are praying for great days, lots of energy, and for those doctor visits to go away but honestly I think you are doing exactly what God intended all along! Even healthcare professionals need Jesus. This too shall pass! Stay strong!

Kim - March 7, 2012 - 11:30 pm

Grateful or the good news. Touched by your doctor’s question & prayer. Blessed by your teaching during your trials. And tickled (once again) by Frank!
Love & Blessings,
Kim
P.S. Gotta know more about this coconut milk ice cream. Our oldest and I are both lactose intolerant. Where can I get it?

That is some HUGE AWESOMENESS!!!!!!! Your faith, your sharing, your healing- and I am BELIEVING WITH YOU SISTER, your doctor’s prayer, your son’s faith, and your commitment to the Lord!!!!!! You completely inspire me 🙂 THANK YOU!!!

Wow. Love to hear how God is using all of this for His glory. You are walking through this trial so faithfully. Praying that God is going to bring your through this valley 100% whole and healed!!!

What a beautiful thing to have such a godly doctor! I hope you are at 100% your next visit!

Born to be…more than an orphan. Born to Thrive

So…yesterday I took the kids to the Fernbank museum in Hotlanta. It was “homeschool day” at Fernbank–so me and the other plaid jumper and bun wearers united to teach our kids about wildlife rescue and such. Parker and Laney even had the joy of dissecting owl pellets to discover what their diets consist of. NICE. We, homeschoolers, get it done…you know your jealous.

I expected the day to be a fun day connecting. I’ll say I was so thankful to have this opportunity as classes literally RACED behind us as we were reading EVERY sign. As one class passed, a teacher got on to their kids saying, “Alright guys–keep going…those kids are actually trying to learn something.” I tried not to laugh because I’m a former public school teacher. Now you KNOW I don’t have anything against my old job–but you do have to maintain order and discipline with large classes–and some times that means keeping them all in straight lines, keeping the line movin’ and I was just so thankful yesterday to have the opportunity to literally read every description and dig deeper just teaching my little ones. I mean…it definitely makes for a learning field trip when you can add the learning to it! (By the way–we ARE considering putting the older kiddos in a Christian classical school NEXT year where they would go half day and the classes are 8-10 kids for elementary. Homeschool is NOT for everyone…but I do have ANOTHER post on ANOTHER day to share what homeschool has taught me and how it has made me aware of my educational role as a mom NO MATTER what type of learning environment my kids are in…I actually used to think it was the SCHOOL’S job to teach my kids. Don’t stone me people–I didn’t know it was my beautiful privilege to be the one challenging my children and taking them to the next level–I unknowingly was putting their education in the hands of others without being the main role and just allowing the school to play their support role…it was totally backwards and my OLDEST is just in 1st grade so this school stuff is still new to me!!!) I really don’t think this mom was made for JUST homeschooling–but I do believe the Lord called me to this to OPEN MY EYES and show me how to better lead and guide my children! SO THANKFUL! THIS is another post for another day–one that will ENCOURAGE YOU and CHALLENGE you whether your kids are in private, public, home school or whatever. EVERY child has a different need where they will THRIVE–but we can’t give our precious gifts away and trust just anyone to lead and educate them.

Okay…so another post for another day!

While we DID learn yesterday–and while I did almost gag as they handed me their zip-lock bags full of little animal parts they were able to dissect in owl dung, one thing I did NOT expect to do at the museum was CRY. I was overcome with God’s creation…and His perfect plan…and His heart for FAMILY.

We bought IMAX tickets to see a movie about wildlife rescue called “Born to be Wild” narrated by Morgan Freeman. This documentary is about two women called to rescue orphaned elephants and orangutans in the Kenyan savannah. Dame Daphne Sheldrick and Dr. Birute Galdikas have dedicated their entire lives…giving up everything to save these orphaned animals after seeing firsthand that they would die without a mother’s love. They rescue them, rehabilitate them and release them to thrive on their own in this world…

What was SO fascinating was to watch the behavior of these deserted animals when they were found–to watch how they changed when they began to connect with their human caregivers and to see them begin to thrive…and then finally to be released to live to their potential. I sat there watching these animals MOURN at night–and tears rolled down my cheek at how beautiful God’s creation is. He beautiful created not only HIS PEOPLE to have family…but for these creatures to experience family too.

One of the most phenomenal things in the entire film was watching what happens when the elephants were finally released. Ex-orphans–some that were released even 30 years ago–ALL ran in a herd to the truck releasing the animal. Watching it from sky view–I was at first afraid they were going to attack. But what happened next–was beautiful. The ex-orphans stood awaiting to welcome the new elephant now old enough to go into their family. They kissed him…they soothed him…they watched after him.

And Freeman’s voice came over this beautiful scene…”If we allow the future of orphans to die…part of ourselves will die with them.”

“YESSS!!!” my heart cried!!!!!! And sitting there I knew that our family is NOT done. The Lord even used the story of elephant and orangutan orphans and how they desperately need family to thrive to bring more passion to my heart.

Because God is real…because this life is NOT about me…or 2.5 kids, a vacation and a white picket fence…because orphans need families to really thrive…then I can’t live my life for just me–what is easy for me. Not everyone will or can adopt–but I do think that EVERYONE can do something for the sake of the orphans.

I picked up my phone quietly…as I needed to text my husband to remind him there’s a little girl or two that I can’t wait to bring home one day. I am thankful that this is our life’s calling. I will fight for wellness and health to live the life the Lord has created for me to live. The enemy is going to try and discourage me and get in the way…but this is one mom you really don’t want to get in the way of when she’s on a mission. By the way–the Lord needs a little shout out because for over a week I have felt 100% back to myself. No doctor, no supplements, no anything but the Lord on that one.

I can’t wait to see what our lives look like 5, 10, 20 years from now. Aren’t you EXCITED to see what the Lord can and will do through your life as you put on the breaks and wait on Him. And putting on the breaks for what you think it should like…might just be the most exciting and wildest ride you ever imagined!

Andrea!! This post R.O.C.K.S! I love your heart, and soooo needed this today. “Because God is real…because this life is NOT about me…or 2.5 kids, a vacation and a white picket fence…because orphans need families to really thrive…then I can’t live my life for just me–what is easy for me. Yes I am excited to see what the Lord is doing- in my life, in yours, in countless others! Today I am in awe of HIM 🙂 So glad you had a great fieldtrip and heard that little nudge from Him about His plans for adopting more kids. Keep believing that you’ll be healed and praising Him through it- you’re an example to us all, Andrea.

P.S. I went to a Classical Christian School (after being homeschooled for 6 years first). I’m no genius but it was a great education.

This news is SUCH an answer to prayer. Shouts of joy, shouts of victory are in the tents of the righteous…the Lord’s right hand has done valiant things the Lord’s right hand is exalted…makes me sing and shout for JOY that your body is manifesting in the physical the healing we’ve been contending for in the supernatural. The healer is in the house!:)
Love it.

Rebecca - March 6, 2012 - 4:51 pm

I just love God….how He speaks and how He works. So glad He spoke to you today, and that He has given you such a heart for orphans.

We are on similar first year of homeschooling paths. As my daughter and I walked through Tells last week, I had the same experience. We were asking it all in, reading signs and taking our time. As a former teacher myself, couldn’t help but notice what the big groups were not learning. So glad to be blessed with the opportunity to teach my girls.

Fern bank is on our field trip let as well. Would love to have a way to find out when homeschool days are at various locations.

Amber - March 7, 2012 - 12:47 am

Thank you for this! I too saw this awhile back ago and I too cried! I love what you wrote about it. Also excited to hear that you are feeling better.

When Isaac grows up, he wants to be an…

We went to the Tellus Science Museum with two homeschool/adoption/Created for Care mommas! Laura (below far right) is Luke’s mom who was Isaac’s crib mate and NOW they live here and do life with us! LOVE. And Tracy (far left) she came to the Created for Care retreat…I spotted her one day wearing a t-shirt that was sold there…and I grabbed her–started chatting–and we’ve been getting together for fun kiddie play dates ever since! LOVE these mommas!

Laura’s crew + my crew in front of dinosaur exhibit…

Laura took the older ones to the planetarium…while I had the pleasure of taking the younger ones:) They were so funny and had so much fun listening to Big Bird tell them about the stars!

While the older ones were checking out their special planetarium show–we took the littles to pan for mineral rocks…

ALL WAS GOOD UNTILLL…Frankie baby poured some (a WHOLE bowl of!) water all over his shirt. THANKFULLY–we tried a fun drying technique which all the babies thought was super cool–and it did the job:)…

Nice.

THEN…they went on a fossil dig…

More panning with the older kiddos…

THIS BOY IS MY HEART!

We finished up in the home center where the boys had a blast learning out reflections and light…

Soooo…that’s our museum wrap UNTIL Monday when we hit up the Fernbank Museum! They are having a whole day of fun for homeschool kiddos. We’ll be hitting it up with Tracy and Laura’s crews again–can’t WAIT!

We were there this week too for a space homeschool “field trip”. LOVED having the museum almost to ourselves.

Such a neat museum!

An Easter Wreath

Tomorrow is MARCH…and for us…we are in the midst of our Lent journey—so it’s time to pull out the Easter decorations:)

I made this wreath by spray painting an inexpensive wreath from Michael’s robin egg blue. I hot glued yarn on cheap plastic eggs as I wrapped the yarn around them in different ways–and then I used scrap fabric glued with Modge Podge on thick card stock to make a little banner (found the a bag of glitter letters for just 99 cents at Hobby Lobby).

Isn’t the carrot cute???

You can buy a foam cone at Hobby Lobby for $4 OR you can be really cheap like me and buy a 50 cent sheet of foam instead and just hot glue it in the shape of a cone, stuff a grocery bag in in–and then hot glue green yarn all the way around the edge. Tie it off with something fun to cover up the grocery bag center and then wrap it with orange yarn.

The eggs…

I found the EASIEST thing to do was to hot glue the plastic egg shut FIRST. Then hot glue bit by bit each time you wrap (actually easier than just wrapping it like a ball of yarn like I did for some of them).

We have our EASTER TREE going…and truly THAT is the decoration full of meaning and goodness that I love the most! Nothing sweeter than gathering as a family each night to read scripture together and watching the kids with excitement in putting the NEXT ornament on.

Blessings to you this Lent season!

Andrea
