New Wiphan T’s & Scripture Reading {Deuteronomy 29, 30, 31}

I’m on a serious “dress for a cause” kick. I bought a really cute t-shirt last summer from the Gap that said “Change the World with what you wear”. It was a purple t—but one of their product red shirts. It really had me thinking…

What if we lived in a way to change the world and did things in a way that He might be glorified more in EVERYTHING we did!? What if instead of shopping to “look cute” we instead shopped to be clothed and the clothes we bought made a difference! If you have an adoption shirt you are trying to sell—can you please fill out my contact form and shoot me an email! I would love to create a page full of “clothes for a cause” and direct others to your sites!!!

That being said, Wiphan has new shirts!!! Your man will love these especially—they are great t’s, a great price and they go to help fund our ministry that serves orphans and widows!

The first is just $20! Yep—great deal, huh? I love the brown and orange together…

The next is my hubby’s fav. That man of mine loves quarter length sleeves. He wears this old one that he’s had since before we got married so I’m thrilled to now have it replaced with this Wiphan one! It’s just $25…

And thennnnnn…the LADIES FAVORITE!!!! YAY! This one is $38 and it’s a long sleeve light burnout…really cute with a little tank underneath…and so cute that you can even wear on a night out! I just bought mine…

You can buy these t-shirts here.

ALSO…Wiphan is sending the winner of our week long blog referral contest a FREE burnout t-shirt. The winner of referring the MOST people to the Wiphan site from their blog is Kristi Johnson!!!! Yay! Thank you everyone who shared about Wiphan on our blog! We sold lots of t-shirts that week—and we are so thankful!!!!

We also have a NEW widow support program!!!! You can read about it here. I’ll be sharing more about the widow support tomorrow…and how YOU can support a widow and join Wiphan’s mission in not only reaching out to the orphan—but also the widow!

Here is a word from Kunda about our widow program–about the need to bring truth to the women and community…and a little bit about the superstition that the culture believes. We are about breaking bondage, bringing truth and setting our widows free to not only know Jesus but have a future!!!!

One Year Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 29:2 – 31:29

This reading records Moses final instructions to the Israelites as their spiritual leader. Moses knows (simply because the Lord told him) that the people will listen for a time, but it won’t be long before they do what they always seem to do…and take their eyes off the Lord.

Moses instructs the people one final time to obey the terms of the covenant—and again explains there is blessing in following the Lord…and there is devestation in disobedience. This simple truth wasn’t invented by Moses or common sense…it was GIVEN BY GOD. The doctrines and instructions weren’t from Moses…they weren’t optional…they were given by God.

In today’s world, Christians seem to be more interested in the church meeting their needs and entertaining them rather than hearts POURING OVER SCRIPTURE…FEEDING ON IT…LIVING THE GOSPEL…AND BLEEDING SCRIPTURE. If our hearts are right before worship—then it will be impossible to even consider if the church is meeting our needs. It is not the churches job to meet our needs. Our needs are met by the Lord alone—He wants to meet them…and they are met in our daily pouring over His Word and pouring out our old selves. Oh, how I want my life to ouze scripture. It is the ONLY thing that brings me true and lasting joy. Often, I struggle with being happy—being joyful…and I know it’s in those times that I’ve just been too long NOT in His WORD.

We need to be imitators of the Word…and in this reading like Israel where we meet together regularly to talk about scripture and have it explained. For most, an hour or two on Sunday is all we spare to meet with others to discuss, digest and disect His Word together. YET…there is NOTHING else that stands. There is NOTHING else that truth can be drawn from. Yet “BUSY” usually beats the Bible.

Change us Lord.

Help us to change our hearts. Change our schedules. Change how we spend our time. Change what we talk about at the dinner table. Or on double dates. Or dinner dates. And with our children. Help us to live for You. Feed off Your holy scripture—and bleed the gospel. Bring mentors in our lives to pour in—bring us younger mommies to pour back into. And make the WORD the source of ALL the pouring. AMEN.

I love the idea of dressing for a cause. How about instead of perpetuating worldwide poverty by lining the pockets of sweatshop-using companies, we do the opposite and buy clothing that helps eradicate poverty? This was inspirational, I think I will try to get some more clothing where I know my money is truly helping people.

LOVE the shirts! just ordered ours πŸ™‚

Renea - March 20, 2010 - 10:48 pm

Can’t wait to build my wardrobe with a WIPHAN shirt. πŸ™‚ I try to wear all my adoption shirts, Africa shirts, water shirts, etc. etc. etc. everyday! πŸ™‚ When my life keeps me so busy that I can’t stop and tell everyone with my mouth the need for service of our brothers and sisters in Christ, my shirt can! β™₯

Renea - March 20, 2010 - 10:49 pm

P.S. Congratulations Kristi!!! That was a total no-brainer! LOL πŸ™‚ She’s the advocacy queen!

Quotes that make me smile…

After a crazy week…thought I’d keep it light and share one thing my heart LOVES. Vinyl. I just love quotes, numbers, pictures…that can be put on the walls—and then just as easily taken down. It’s no loss…and a lot of fun to change things up. I already have things like this all over my house. But surely…there’s always room for more. I love Etsy. How fun are these…

How could you not have a smile on your face when you read that every morning?!

Something about elephants I love this time around dreaming of a nursery. If we end up with a boy…I’m digging light sea-green blues, tans and browns. And I think these elephants would fit right in;).You can find them on etsy here.

Seriously…I need this one. This IS soooooo my motto…also on etsy here

OK…getting sidetracked here—but also on Etsy…you can find redonkulously cute things for your kiddos…and some things that EVEN help families pay for their adoptions…like this you can buy here

And if you know someone adopting from Ethiopia—I think this would be the sweetest thing to add to their stocking this year…(you can buy it here)

My little girl would soooo love this…You can buy it here.

OK…so fun…just had to play and share some favs from my Etsy fun:)

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 26-29:1

Confession. Some times I don’t see it right. Deuteronomy is right on. And some times I just don’t interpret what the Lord says as the Lord says it. Maybe it’s not even interpretting it wrong…but my sinful flesh wants to hear it differently.

Confession. Some times I fall into the sin of thinking my serving the orphan and the widow is a calling…or its like an offering to God from me…or for lack of better words from my mommy brain—that I’m doing “extra”.

From a parent’s words—“Son, you must go to school…You must do your homework. You must get a job.”

In life…there will be MUSTS. And then there will be I WISH YOU WOULDS. I wish you would do this…I wish you would do that…I wish you would be a leader. I wish you would be outgoing. Every parent also has their I WISH YOU WOULDS.

There is a BIG different between MUSTS and I WISH YOU WOULD. B-I-G. And the consequences for NOT doing the MUSTS—are BIG. The consequences from NOT doing the I WISH YOU WOULDS…might make life a bit less adventureous…but the consequences not the same.

So…how do we hear in this reading from the Lord…

“Every third year you must offer a special tithe of your crops. In this year of the special tithe you must give your tithes to the Levites, foreigners, orphans and widows so that they will have enough to eat…”

Have we as Christians followed the Lord in provided abundantly for the missionary, orphan, widow and poor? Do we give them our left overs rather than out of sacrifice?

And why do I think I’ve done anything “good” when I have given left overs to the orphan and widow and poor? How will I look at my son when he comes home from school and says to himself, “I went to school today just as my mom said I must!” or “I flushed the toilet mom after going potty.” That’s great son. Those are things you must do. But now when he goes and gives his sister something WITHOUT being asked just because he geniunely LOVES her and has compassion for her…now this—THIS…deeply pleases me.

Oh Lord, forgive me for when I have not given sacrificiously to the orphan, widow and poor. Help me to understand your musts—but to do them with a heart of compassion as I understand your heart deeper. Forgive me Lord for some times getting caught up in my own life and not desperately fighting for those you say we must fight for. Speak to our hearts this weekend how to priortize our time, finances, and lives according to Your commands, instructions and your will. My hearts desire is to please you—and truly I want my actions to be an overflow of love and compassion that only You could put there.

You’ve just written a post that’s been stirring around in my head all week; however, you said it much more eloquently than I could have. You are such a gifted writer. Love your blog and your heart!

Renea - March 20, 2010 - 12:43 am

You know I love your β™₯ and this post actually mimics what I have been battling with all day long….. it’s been a crazy CRAZY day and as much as I want to think I am ‘doing the extra’ I fail miserably at doing enough. It’s like scratching the surface of what my God expects. Demands. Oh how I want to overflow!

Catchin up…

I’m catching up on reading today and will post both yesterday and today’s later this afternoon. I’m going to TRY to start posting the day before’s reading at night again too.

We’ve been doing some serious Spring cleaning at the Young house…much needed—and we’ve also decided to put the posts with our kiddos pictures only on our private blog just to best protect the privacy of our kids and fam. I’ll still be posting everything here BUT lots of funny family picks that the kids might hate me for later;). If you have been keeping up with our family and you want access to our private blog…just shoot me an email so you can continue on our journey with us to baby #4:) No more having to watermark those pictures…and maybe I can justify a really extra funny story or two…and the way funny blopper pics that I couldn’t before;). And no crazy watermarking. I should have done that a long time ago! Happy Friday—and hope you all have a great weekend!

When things don’t make sense… {Scripture Reading Deuteronomy 16:18 – 21}

Today’s scripture reading is Deuteronomy chapters 16, 17, 18, 19 & 21. These are what you call historical chapters—so while there are still very applicable points that can be made…for the most part it’s historical and cultural writing and instruction. AND…to be honest–it just didn’t speak to my heart today. Ever have one of those days, weeks or months? Where you just felt like nothing seems to make sense? Or things are just off…confusing or hard?

Without sharing too much to best protect the minds and hearts of my children who will probably one day read my blog book, this has just been one of those weeks where I feel like my life is a snow globe. Any time one of my children are involved–it just seems to rock my world more than anything else could. I feel myself not wanted to accept what may be true, and suddenly I am completely distracted by the “snow”.snow globeYou know…it seems like everything is planted just right—your cup is full…and then something comes by and shakes it up…and everything doesn’t seem so clear or easy any more. You see, when you are inside the globe—some times you just see the snow…the mess…and you have to step back and ask the Lord for the miracle of seeing it from His perspective.

After all…He who is holding your globe has a purpose. He who is holding your globe created it. He who is holding your globe has overcome the world. AND…to Him…it looks like what a child sees at Christmas when he shakes a snow globe. To Him, it’s beautiful…because He knows the rest of your story. While you shake your head and wonder, He is smiling—and amazed at His own creation and His perfect plan. Will you trust Him with me?

John 16:33 says β€œIn the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Notice Jesus does not say “In the world when you have tribulation…” or “In the world if you have tribulation…” Jesus says, “In the world YOU WILL have tribulation…” Your globe is just going to get shaken. BUT…it is part of His perfect plan—His story for you. So—you can be of good cheer because He has overcome that tribulation ALREADY. Yes, that tribulation sitting there looking you right in the eye. D-O-N-E. Can you say it? It’s DONE. It’s OVERCOME.

As the old saying goes, “This too shall pass.” BUT–let us not say that and leave it at that. Yes, this will pass. BUT with His power—EMBRACE IT. Ummm…sorry…do I need to repeat that? Embrace tribulation? For real? Jesus said it, I’m just quoting Him. Help us Lord to embrace the difficult. To step outside our snow globes and to see the snow…to see the beauty and even—BE GLAD. And thank you that you ask us to be vulnerable and real—so that others can know that they aren’t alone—that you are ENOUGH—that you are more than ABLE…and that you have overcome this trial ALREADY…and the entire world and it’s troubles!

If you think about it–will you say a prayer that this mommy will have wisdom to know what is best concerning one of our sweet ones? Pray my heart will rest in the Creator and trust Him in His creations…that I would trust the Creator over anything and everything else. Do you have a prayer request that I can pray for? Seriously, I’d love nothing more to lift you up in prayer sweet friends. If you do–please feel free to jot it down in the comments OR if its a more confidential request…just shoot me an email from the contact form. I’d love to pray for you…to do life with you and trust our Father–the Creator of your story–with you.

Thankful for sweet time with my little ones today celebrating green day…JUST what this momma needed today. A sweet day just being silly and having fun…

Our “pot of gold” made from limes…a dash of sugar and whipped topping inside…and then lemon jello…IMG_2049

Lime-aide…All. Day. Long…YUM…IMG_2045

Green jello shooters! (sorry…I just had to say that…it’s just lemon jello people;)…IMG_2076

Ok…I thought this was gross…but they thought this was fun today…green milkIMG_2106

And our FAVORITE here…brussel sprouts with dinner…IMG_2099

Not a brussel sprout fan? Well, you just need to cook them like us! Our kids LOVE them too. We learned a trick while in New York visiting a chef with the Food Network. You have to slice them in half, sautee in olive oil (ONLY)…NO salt, pepper or flavoring! And you must sautee in a iron skillet. Sautee in olive oil for 4-5 mintues until lightly browned on edges—and then stick in oven in iron skillet at 350 degrees for 5 more mintues stirring occasionally. TRUST ME ON THIS! We serve these to dinner guests ALL the time and they try to make themselves and call us for instructions! It’s THAT easy. But you have to do it just like that…and they are like candy! YUM!IMG_2092
Just to vouch for these, two of my dearest friends Jett and Kelly both told me that hated brussel sprouts. I made them try them this way…and they LOVE THEM now! Mission accomplished:).

Wishing you all a blessed Thursday!!!
