Day 6 Journey with the Magi (The GIFTS) & an AMAZING airport homecoming!!!!!

I know…I know–I usually only post once a day–but things are crazy exciting here!!! If you missed the “It’s a Girl Thing” update I posted earlier today…OH MY–you MUST read!!! AMAZING!

Now…our Day 6 Journey with the Magi. We read Matthew 2:11b “Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

One of my utmost favorite things to do as a mom–is making stories come to life to my children. If you are a good friend–then you have seen my story telling and the animation that goes into every story they here. You want a good story to tell your children? Well, today’s Journey with the Magi will have them listening, learning and on the edge of their seats in amazement at how detailed and purposeful our God is! I don’t know another way to explain how to tell your children this…other than exactly how I told mine…so here goes…

Now–as you know the Magi had just finished worshiping Jesus…they were on their knees—and it was time to present the gifts they carried and protected for almost a thousand miles…over desert and valley and even through times of peace and war. Finally they were here–and can you imagine how excited they were? Don’t you remember the feeling in your hearts??? When you have found the PERFECT gift…the gift you feel God Himself laid on your heart to surprise someone you couldn’t wait to see with—they thought they would RUN right up and give Jesus the gifts when they saw Him…but their hearts were overwhelmed His presense and they worshipped Him first.

Now while we know very little of where these wise men are truly from–tradition has passed down where many in the early church said they were from. And OH MY–were they long awaited for!!! Even books in the Bible said they would come!!! Psalm 72:10-11 “The kings of Tarshish and the Isles shall offer gifts, the kings of Arabia and Seba shall bring tribute. All kings shall pay their homage, all nations shall serve Him.” Isaiah 60:6…”Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praises of the Lord.” CRAZY that even the old testament said they would come…many, many, many years before Mary or Joseph or Jesus Himself was ever born!!! AND although we don’t know exactly where they were from tradition in the early church has said one was from Ethiopia…another possibly from Iran or Eqypt…some have said the east (China). Since the 7th century–they have been identified as Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar—and there is even a historical document written in 735 that tells us a little bit about each of them. NOW…keep in mind this isn’t written in the scriptures–but this could possibly be who they are…and we do know their gifts and what they meant…so let’s meet them!

First–meet Melchior…it is said he was a very old man with white hair and a long beard (Parker and Laney think we need to paint this one now:)(So…this is the younger Melchoir). It is said that Melchoir brought GOLD.

GOLD? Can you IMAGINE?! Oh my!!! Gold was meant for KINGS!!! Kings were the ones who had all the gold…and they were the ones that received gold as gifts in their honor. Can you imagine—I mean…really–can you IMAGINE what Mary was thinking? “MY SON??? You are giving Him gold. Gold is for kings…gold is for KINGS…it is TRUE–my son…the KING of KINGS!” He brought the gold and there he laid it at this baby’s feet. A gift for a KING…

Then…came Caspar. Caspar was said to be young and beardless and to have a ruddy complexion…(Yep–you guess it…Laney and Parker want to take away his beard now:)It is said the Caspar brought frankincense.

FRANKINCENSE??? Well…lemme tell you about this one! Frankincense comes from a tree called Boswellia…you create frankincense by slashing the tree–making it bleed resin and the resin eventually hardens which they call tears. Many priests would burn the tears–or FRANKINCENSE as an offering and it was also used for anointing by priests. SO…frankincense was something priests owned and others offered to priests as a sacrificial offering for anointing. He brought this gift that belonged to priests…and laid it at Jesus’s little tiny feet. Again…can’t you hear Mary’s wondering, “For my son??? A priest? He will be a KING and a PRIEST!?” Oh how this mom I’m sure was treasuring this all in her heart!

Then came Balthasar, black-skinned and bearded…(Laney and Parker had just about had it—they insisted we paint Balthasar…so we added a quick craft session to our devotion time tonight:)This Magi is said to be from Ethiopia…and he came last. He brought the gift of myrrh and laid it at his feet.

MYRRH??? “Oh wait,” Mary thought. “There must have been a mistake. Myrrh? For my little one? Maybe that was all this kind Magi had to give. Did he mean to give me this?” You guys know the feeling…you have gotten a gift before you just weren’t sure was really meant for YOU. But you are polite and you accept it. Mary thought more, “Why would this sweet soul bring us myrhh? This is what we use to heal wounds…to put on our loved ones when they die…to put in their bodies after death to keep them perserved a bit longer…he’s just a baby…” And I have a feeling Mary again–treasured these things in her heart.

As a family–we went back through the gifts and how they RELATED to Jesus…how they really were intended just for Him. They told ME all about how He was the King of Kings…how He was the most High Priest (after all…when he was cruicified–the curtain would be torn and no longer would the high priest have to be the one who spoke on behalf of the people to God…ANYONE could because THE High Priest had come!) And then…my little ones told me what the myrrh must have been for. BUT take heart—because HE has overcome the world and through Him we have a relationship with Him…and life eternal.

We shared the ways we had seen Jesus today–and tonight…it was UNANIMOUS! We ALL saw Jesus today in seeing TWO beautiful Ugandan children brought home to the Owens family!!!!!!!!!

We spent our day with many of the Owen’s family’s friends making WELCOME HOME Hannah and Joseph posters!!!

Laura Hill was so sweet to put this together! Can I just say I’m so happy to do life with these families?!?!?

Laura’s little girl got a little crazy with the green marker I’m afraid…she and Isaac were little stinkers today I’m afraid!

Frank even colored…

And the Levy boys displayed their work of art all ready for the airport tonight!

After we decorated sweet Joy Harty led us in a little Happy Birthday Jesus lesson and cake celebration…(Joy is another one of the 60Feet families we are blessed to know here!) She has the SWEETEST girls (coloring with Laney in those first pictures by the way!)

AND THEN IT WAS TIME TO PUT THE POSTERS TO WORK!!!! OFF TO THE ATLANTA AIRPORT TO WELCOME HOME HANNAH AND JOSEPH!!!!!

AND HERE THEY COME!!!!!

A family of FIVE becomes a family of SEVEN!

LOVE this family…and so excited for these two sweet children to now be OWENS kiddos!!!!

We made QUITE the scene at the airport and even strangers were clapping!!! Oh happy day!

Here’s Joy Harty’s hubby getting to see Joseph again! He is on the 60Feet team and helped get these children out of the boys prison into a safe home until they could be adopted and brought home! What a precious reunion!

And that my friends…is a day in our life today!!!! AND…we have another airport homecoming around the corner!!! One of my dearest friends will be bringing her son home from Uganda this weekend!!!! Melissa and I go WAY back…we lived in China together for a bit…we went to Auburn together…we were in each others weddings…and we both brought home our sons from Africa the same year!!! I can’t WAIT to be at the airport VERY soon and for you all to see his precious face…he is 2 years old and just BEAUTIFUL! So…until then…HAPPY NEW YEARS and have a GREAT weekend!

And I know we made the connection with Melissa but I didn’t realize y’all were so close!! I think I told you but we went to Briarwood together and I’ve just recently re-connected with her on FB and been following her adoption…I so wish we lived in ATL and could be there tonight- I can’t wait to read your post on it!

WOW!!! What an amazing homecoming!! So glad they are home! Have loved following their journey!!

“It’s a Girl Thing” update!!!!!!!

Soooo…back in August—Sarah Titus and I posted a project that we challenged ladies from all over the United States to join us in. You might remember the post here: It’s A Girl Thing. We sent the kits to BOTH Korah (in Ethiopia) AND Wiphan (in Zambia). While we haven’t gotten any feedback yet from Project61 in Korah (they DID get the kits but I think they still need someone to train them)–HOWEVER we JUST got feedback back from my sister in Zambia who is training the widows and young girls how to use these kits!!!

Here’s the DEALIO if this project is news to you. MOST girls and ladies in Africa do not have the money OR access to sanitary items. SO–during their monthly cycles they often just sit at home. These widows NEED to leave their homes to find work to provide for their children–but they can’t!!! And 60% of young girls drop out of school because they have no way to care for themselves during that time and are too embarrassed to go to school. WELL–thanks to women stepping up to the plate ALL OVER AMERICA–these girls and widows now have washable, organic pads. While I know some of you are saying, WHAT???? Is that sanitary. Well…lemme tell you this. THIS IS more sanitary than what they were using–some times making tampons out of old newspaper. They just didn’t know what else to do!!! Many of the girls and women get infections. Not knowing what the infections are, some women are even outcasted by their husbands if they still have them thinking they have been unfaithful. Some even left or worse–abused because of being falsely accused of something they couldn’t help. (I read an EYE opening article about this…it’s just awful!) AND did you know the drop out rate for girls INCREASES to just 8% (did you hear that?!) when they have these?!?!?!?

Does someone look happy to you???

I am so honored to be a part of this project!!! I want to thank YOU–women from all over the country who read my blog entry that day…AND CHOOSE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! And when I saw women ALL over America–I mean ALL OVER. I can’t tell you how many packages arrived at my door. I would look at where they each came from and REJOICE!!! From Canada to Florida from New York and California!!! Sarah Titus and I collected…sorted…resorted…and then off they went! I heard stories after stories of women who volunteered wanting to bless these girls and women–and in turn, they ended up being the ones blessed!!! I even heard a story of someone going in a JoAnn’s fabric store in Oregon and the lady behind the desk asking a lady, “By any chance is this for Baby of My Heart’s “It’s a Girl Thing?” AND guess what? They were giving DISCOUNTS!!! SO…you think God just MIGHT have His hand on projects like these??? Ya think God cares deeply for the details of these girls and women????

And do you think it makes HIM rejoice when HE sees His beloved Zambian children getting these!!! And when He sees this widow CLAPPING because she can’t believe God has provided this for her?!

I can get SO WRAPPED up in my little world and get worked up over the dumbest little things. And guess what. MOST of them in the big scheme of things–DO NOT matter!!! I want MY LIFE to be all about investing in others and making a difference in the world. WHO’S WITH ME?!?!?

And they line up to get their very own kits—I promise these are their MOST treasured possession now!!!!

If you were a part of this project…REJOICE!!! Rejoice in how HE has used you!!!!!! And if you would like jpeg files to print and share with the groups that sewed with you—PLEASE email me (via the contact page on my blog…if I write my email here I’m a spam target!) and I’ll send you lots of pictures to share with your sewing teams!!!! Now…some people (like our husbands;) might poke at us mommas for being bloggers…for reading blogs daily…BUT truly we can use things like blogs to CHANGE the world as we come together for projects like this one!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who took part in this project!!!!!!!! Hold tight…I have something else up my sleeve:). You know me…always up to something;-).

Off to do a happy dance!!! Go ahead and join me…isn’t it fun to be a part of things like this?!?!!??!?!

Last but not least—here is my sister’s Day 3 update from Ndola…ANOTHER MUST READ!Another amazing day. We started the day at Mapalo school’s campus with the sponsored kids and gave them their letters and they wrote their sponsors back. We then visited our friend’s (The Fains) sponsored child- Evans Chisenga. Evans father passed away and he lives with his mom. He is the oldest child in his family and the only one who attends school. I guess that makes Evans the “man of the house”. He’s a sweet, kind, and smart young man and we are so honored we got to meet him today!
We then headed back to Sinia campus where we were greeted by the ladies who attend Wiphan’s Skills Training program. They had been told about the “It’s a Girl Thing Project” and even though they were also told we would not arrive until 1 pm- most of them arrived at 8 am. I asked Elizabeth why they came so early…. she said, “They were just too excited!”. As we talked about them, gave them instructions for use and for cleaning them… they danced and sang and praised God for his provisions. Humbling to say the least… When’s the last time you praised God for your maxi-pad? BUT to these ladies, these gifts are life-changing. They can leave their homes during that time of their cycle- they can work, go to school, and be kept safe from infection. These are the things we take for granted that we truly rarely think about. Toilet paper, tampons:), soap & running water…
Your sister in Christ, April

P.S. April is going to be with us at the retreat sharing Wiphan at the orphan care breakout!!!!! If you want to get more involved—come meet April there and she’ll get you plugged in and tell you how YOU can make a difference RIGHT where you are! (Or…maybe some of you will be on our next trip?!) Hope you all have a GREAT day! I’m off to the airport to see a family united with their 2 new ones from Uganda!!! Can you say TWO less orphans in the world! SO excited!!!!!!!!!! Pictures of course to follow tomorrow! SOMEONE…PLEASE pinch me!!! I know this is Earth–but SOME times His SWEET REDEMPTION feels like heaven!!!!! How glorious it is to live for Him and be a part of things like THIS!

So completely amazing. I am sitting here in tears (maybe because I’m also using one of those reusable pads right now?! ha ha)…what a Mighty God we serve! I’m so happy to have been a part of this project…I can’t wait to share this with everyone who sewed with me and prayed over those bags! I’m also SUPER excited to hear more about it in February at the retreat! Yippy!!!

Renea - December 30, 2010 - 3:36 pm

That is awesome!!!!! Are you going to be doing another program like this or know of other areas that can use the same products? I think that would be an amazing thing to have a women’s ministry group do as a project at church! Sorry I missed the boat the first time around! That’s what I get for skipping out of blog land from time to time! lol Praising God for His provisions! Bless you!

I found a link to this post from http://www.knowingnobounds.blogspot.com and I wanted to write to find out how I can be a part of this effort. I would like to suggest this as a service project the women in my family and my church could work on together. Any information you can send me would be greatly appreciated!

Frank, February 15th, Fossils & Day 5 of our Journey with the Magi

This mom has been doing A LOT of processing lately–and I wish I could even put into words half of what is going on in my mind and heart. I have heard the holidays does something quite emotional in adoptive moms hearts–and I can’t say those who have gone before me didn’t warn me…but it is very true. More to come on this…don’t even know how to put it all in words yet.

In the mean time…

FRANK…I must tell those of you who are fans of Frank…
There are a few Frank changes that you should be aware of;). He now insists on dressing himself. As if I already didn’t look crazy enough going out in public–he insisted on this get-up (actually not that bad for Frank…I really need to photograph more of his outfit ensembles!)

Frank is also officially in terrible twos. It makes for lots of deep breaths from this mom…but needless to say–you may see more of these new faces…

And this momma does NOT do whining. It amazes me how someone so little can tell when your buttons have been pushed–and they can go from that to this…and win your heart all over again…

February 15th…do you ever have funny goals in your mind that you just hope and pray for. WELL…here’s been mine for awhile…that Isaac would walk by Febuary 15th. The first picture we have of our little guy was taken at Hannah’s Hope on February 15th. It is NIGHT and DAY to how amazing he looks now…and in my heart–I just have been hoping he would walk by that day. Just wanted you to know:). He is starting to get braver and let go for a minute but the minute he realizes no one is holding him…KER PLOP he goes. We still do physical therapy every Wednesday morning because of his hypotonia–but he is making quick progress…SO I’m hopeful he just might take steps by February 15th:). Just had to write that date down so it’s documented:).

Fossils…SOOOO…some times I like to pretend I homeschool. Not sure I could REALLY do it…but some times I like to pretend and see if I could. SO…we spent yesterday learning about archaeology and what fossils are…what archaeologists do…etc, etc. Then I gave them pieces of “earth” to chip away at and showed them how archeologists chip away at fossil sites and carefully brush dirt away. They had so much fun! Check out my little archaeologists!

Richard came home from work to see a pile of sand and chipped pieces on the kids table…which made him laugh because he realized I was playing homeschool again:).

and…

Day 5 of the Journey with the Magi
Tonight on our journey with the Magi—we did more talking and thinking with the children. We read Matthew 2:10-11a “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him…” I can’t wait to explain tomorrow the importance of each gift–but tonight I wanted to just reflect with the children on their seeing Jesus for the first time…what that must have been like…and how it led them to worship. I asked the children how they worship Jesus. In my mind–I thought they would say, “You sing!” But, instead they surprised me. Laney said, “You worship him by how you treat others, by your kindness, by being friends with all kinds of people and loving.”

Out of the mouths of babes. Love when your five year old leaves you speechless and you feel the devotional time is done and YOU have just been ministered to. I had planned for us to sing songs together because I was sure that would be their answer…but instead we sang just one song AFTER we talked more on how we can worship Him. So precious. We wrote down the ways we saw Jesus today–and they kids put the Magi under the Christmas tree:)…because tomorrow they will give the gifts they brought for Jesus. Thankful we are doing this with the children after Christmas.

Last but not least…a recipe you MUST try!a family friend was over for dinner the other night when I realized it was his birthday! SO…I whipped out a quick cookie cake and it was absolutely too delish not to share! The recipe is here. You MUST print it out and save if for later!!! SO GOOD!!!

Love your journey with Magi!!! Love it when God uses our children to teach us :).

Can’t wait to see Isaac walk- all rooting for him here!!!!

I just have to say you could sooo teach your children at home!!! You are very creative! You LOVE spending time with your kids!

Katie - December 30, 2010 - 11:31 pm

Thanks so much for your blog! Love it! I’ve never posted a comment, but couldn’t resist combining 2 parts of this post…archaeology with cookies…last year we made choc. chip cookies and “excavated” the chips with toothpicks for tools. Fun and delicious!

ANOTHER update from Zambia!!!

Matthew 25…‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ Here is today’s update from April in Zambia!!! If you were a part of a girl thing project…you must read:). They will distribute the kits soon!!! YAY! For those of you who know my sister April–you’ll appreciate this post and her humor. For those of you who don’t know her…you need to because this girl cracks me up—I love her humor…but I really love her heart!

This update is longer:). Harris said people are going to make fun of me since he sent one today, too but his was 2 sentences but here it is anyway…
Day 2… Believe it or not we actually slept until 8:00 am (which never happens at home!). I also started the day by killing a HUGE African spider in the shower. (I was a little impressed with myself for how nonchalantly that whole thing went down:)). Harris had the “English Breakfast”- eggs, bacon, etc because he’s braver than I am…. I had toast…
“Fat Cow”- what Labstone calls his van- picked us up at 9 am and we headed to Sinia. There we handed out all the letters to the students who are sponsored there. It was SO much fun to see this in person. It’s hard to believe that less than 2 years ago I was here taking pictures and collecting profiles for Wiphan to get the sponsorship program started and now I’m here watching it. I CANNOT begin to explain how much these letters mean to the children. But here is an example- Harris and I sponsor Obbrey. Obbrey is a precious guy in the 2nd grade (he really might be the cutest one!). He wasn’t there when we arrived because he was just running late… when he arrived Harris said- “Obbrey’s here” and I look over and there he is with this Lion mask on his head. I tried not to cry… BECAUSE 6 months ago when I was frantically pulling together a letter for him because we’d missed the deadline, because in our busy, busy life we had a hard time finding the time to write a letter (seriously!)- I wrote a note, Isabelle drew some pictures and I saw a paper plate lion mask Anna Kate had made at preschool that day sitting on the counter and added it to the envelope. A second thought, a “why not” thought…. and FOR 6 MONTHS, Obbrey had saved that “second thought”. He was wearing it and on top of that he was carrying a little plastic bag that he keeps all of our letters in. I can’t explain a moment like that… but I think you can imagine. All of the things you take for granted, the abundance of what I have and what my kids have and this precious little boy we write a letter to carries it and keeps it safe. There are just no words for that.
Later, we all hopped in “Fat Cow” and went to Obbrey’s house. Obbrey rode with us in what was his first ride in a car. We met his mom, a young widow who is raising her son and her daughter (also a 1st grader at Wiphan school!). She tries to sell vegetables to pay their monthly rent of approx. 40,000 kwacha ($8 US dollars). Obbrey’s father died before he was 3. They are grateful and feel blessed to have a place that Obbrey and his sister can go to school and have a meal each day.
Okay- so after THAT (what to you do after that!?), we went to a lodge in Ndola that has 2 of Wiphan’s Skills Training students interning. They are learning to cook, set tables, and are learning housekeeping skills. The owner of the lodge says he is so impressed with them and how hard they work that he plans to hire them! These young women walk 30 minutes EACH WAY- even during rainy season so they can have this opportunity and they are so proud and feel so blessed to have it. Again…no words.
On our way home from the lodge we stopped at the Quick Save because Harris wanted me to see the Ndola grocery store and he wanted to buy Labstone some “EET-SUM-MOR”s. Which really is how they are spelled and you can tell how they sound. Labstone ate them in 2 seconds. For some reason, Harris thinks this is hilarious:)
Once we were back at the Castle Lodge- we met with Pastor Francis and 2 other pastors. One from Kitwe, the other from Chichonga- both who had been trained for CBSI (Community Bible Study International) and I had brought materials to train our Pastor, Pastor Francis, as well. It was another awesome event… Harris and I meeting with these 3 pastors, introducing Bible Curriculum and discussing ways to start groups in Zambia. Francis is so excited!
All of this on our first full day, all before dinner… and tomorrow’s schedule is full as well. SUCH A BLESSING! Tomorrow, after we do letter writing at Mapalo- we are meeting the widows and Mary, Wiphan’s nurse, at Sinia to demonstrate and present the “It’s a Girl Thing” project!
I can’t wait to tell you how that goes. I knew they would love them, but after showing Elizabeth, Kunda and Abby- I discovered just HOW GREAT this need is and now know that we will have to monitor distribution:). We’re thinking there could be a mini-riot over these things. Just kidding- kind of:)
Love you and though I’m having fun with my friends here- I still can’t wait to come home. I REALLY miss my girls.
ALSO- I have to add that we changed rooms in between the meetings with the pastors and dinner due to the giant rat/roommate we didn’t know we had. Not surprisingly- no one else here thinks having a rat in your room is that big of a deal. I actually surprised myself when I asked why we even needed to change rooms because “couldn’t there just be a rat in there, too?” Still… Eunice suggested it so we agreed with the girl who knows 🙂
Keep praying for Zambia!
Love you!
~April

Please keep April and Harris and Wiphan Zambia in your prayers!!!

Day 4 – Journey with the Magi and…THEY ARE IN ZAMBIA!!!

Tonight was our 4th night in our Journey with the Magi. We read Matthew 2:3-10 about when word spread to King Herod about the Magi’s unbelievable journey…”When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where Christ was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'” Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”

After reading these verses, Parker and Laney immediately started saying, “Herod was tricking! Herod was tricking!” Yes–this is true. BUT we know the end of the story–but in the moment…they did not. The wisemen thought they had been favored. They thought being summoned by Herod was probably an honor. They may have even thought this was God’s blessing on them getting to meet with the king. It won’t be until a dream later they learn otherwise, but for now–remember they didn’t know any different. Tonight, we talked about being wise, putting our trust in the Lord, and being careful to listen or trust just anyone because of who they are or who they say they are. They had much to risk by not obeying the king’s orders—but they had much more to risk if they didn’t obey the Lord. A big lesson is to be learned here…

Once again–I loved hearing how the children saw Jesus today. And they agreed that they should move close to our manger scene–where Laney said, “This is where they now belong.” Indeed, they have seen the star—and tomorrow will be grand as they worship this babe they have traveled through desert, storm, army to get to him…for weeks, months and quite possibly over a year. And when they drop to their knees in worship…their hearts will know the journey was worth it. I can’t wait to share this tomorrow night with the littles!!! I think a few songs about the Magi will be in order with our new karoke machine:).

ALSO…Just wanted to tell you all April and Harris (my sister and brother-in-law) arrived safely at Wiphan Zambia!!! They were greated with lots of this…Don’t those sweet faces and smiles just MELT your heart?!?!

Some of the kids recited a poem on AIDS and how it is effecting their worlds…orphaning their communities…but that AIDS will not take away their future!

At Wiphan Care these kids are being offered not only hope in Christ—but also a free education and a meal a day. Wiphan is always in need of families to join us…to sponsor a child…to join us in making an impact in their world. Please visit the website to learn more how you can sponsor a child!

Here is April and Harris with some of the Wiphan Zambia team…

An update I received from Ndola via April today to update you all on their trip:

Our updates are going to be short and sweet:) Internet isn’t very consistent:)

Day 1 in Zambia was an “easy” one. We went to Sinia and saw all of the improvements- the kitchen, the library the fellowship hall, the bathrooms and offices. It was so awesome to see all of the changes that have been made since Harris and my last visit. God is so good:)

We were greeted by the students at Sinia- again so blown away. Each of them in uniform, sitting on sturdy benches and desks (another huge improvement!). They sang us precious songs, several students recited poems about AIDS, education and what God and Wiphan has done in their lives. We then had dinner with the Wiphan Zambia Board and their families.

Last we got to end the night with a short Skype with Isabelle, Emma and Anna Kate- short because we kept losing connection but so sweet to their faces! Poor Nana Papa already look a little tired. I couldn’t more grafteful for their willingness to do what they are doing there so we can be here! Each one of you play a huge role in our ability to be apart of what God is doing for His children in Africa. Can’t wait to share the pictures and videos we already have!

Tomorrow and Thursday we will spend at the schools with the sponsored kids giving them their letters and then we will get to visit a few of the children’s homes.

Friday, I will meet with the women of Wiphan Zambia and the female teachers to demonstate and hand out the “Pad Kits” from It’s a Girl Thing Project. Will take lots of pics and will hopefully even send some, too!

Love,

April (and Harris)

Thank you for praying for April and Harris as they serve this week in Ndola, Zambia!!! Please continue to keep them in your prayers!!! ALL of you who took part in the project “It’s a Girl Thing” stay tuned!!!! Your hard work is about to be handed out and bless this community!!!!! Thank you for joining us and serving alongside us!!!
