After a couple of long nights…added on top of 3 weeks of long nights…ITY started running a 103 fever. We thought we could make it through the night…not so much. I’ll spare you all the details–but we finally went in to Children’s ER at 5am. We returned home at 11am. Long night…long morning and long afternoon. After x rays, ultrasounds, tests and more tests—the good news is that ITY does NOT have malaria or other crazy disease. YAY God! The bummer news is that he has an UTI and we will spend tomorrow back at the doctor and more tests later in the week to determine if he has kidney reflux. After he got an antiobiotic shot–he started perking up a bit–and we’re rotating Motrin and Tylenol until the UTI goes away. He was a trouper…and once again today—I am reminded how much God loves him…and millions others who need this kind of treatment and care all over the world.
Praises..
-God brought our baby home in His perfect timing. Were he still in Ethiopia—this would NOT be the same experience for him. He is NOW napping, comfortable and even laughed at Frank over lunch:)
-God kept his fever just at 103…not more which would have been harder…but just high enough to cause us to take him to the ER and put us with an amazing team of doctors who were quick to check his kidneys…and even test for malaria…and make this momma at peace.
-We just HAPPENED to be given a nurse who just HAPPENED to be a believer…who just HAPPENED to be leaving for Uganda in a few weeks and was more than compassionate and loving to our son. A nurse with a heart for Africa. Sad to see this nurse off her shift and wait for her to be replaced. BUT her replacement? Just HAPPENED to be my bestfriend’s neighbor who KNEW we were already there before she even got to work and ran straight to our room to care for us. To say we received the best service and treatment is an understatement…our nurse even brought this momma who hadn’t had breakfast (the LAST thing I was worried about!) blueberry scones and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. Wow…God really knows how to hook you up;).
Seriously–I’m tired…but what a JOY to get to be here with my son and not to fret that he is any longer a world away. Amazing how the Lord gives you strength as you follow Him on every path…and I’m so thankful for the life we are choosing. To think the country club, vacations and cute clothes used to be on our daily radars–and they are no longer important. Rich looked at me the other night and once again wooed my heart. He said, “Ang, this is just what our life is going to be about—can we get that straight right now?” ABSOLUTELY. I’m in love with him! I’m in love with that precious baby sleeping upstairs. In love with Frank who so sweetly shares his binky with his bud when I tell him not too;). And so thankful for two older kids who gave us hugs and prayers as we jetted out at 5am this morning. Seriously…our son is the BEST thing that has ever happened to us…and I’m so thankful!!!
Now…to make it through the rest of the day—a little Ethiopian coffee and a good hat;)…and of course a rockin’ Gigi that came over to play model magic with the older two while the babies nap!
