Africa T-shirt Fundraiser

With our current financial focus being on our adoption to bring home our sweet baby girl–momma has decided to get creative and do a little fundraising to get me across the ocean to serve the 450 orphans and 150 widows of Wiphan!!! It has been FOUR years since I first went over…when I stepped on the dirt where Wiphan School NOW stands!!! The Lord had me go over 4 years ago this summer to light a fire under my tail and share what we saw–that the Lord has blessed our voice and done wonders through His people…SO many–even so many of YOU who have joined us!!! For the last 4 years I have longed to go over, but my eyes have also been opened to HOW MUCH we can also do over there–RIGHT HERE. For 4 years, it has not been my time to go–and I’m guessing after we bring home sweet girl next year and have 5 children–it will once again be AWHILE. My GOAL is to raise money to go toward my ticket only…and truly I’m trusting in the Lord’s provision. I’m even scared to death to leave my children…as many of you know I HATE TO FLY! BUT…I know He has another purpose for me to go–and knowing HOW MUCH you can do right here…I wanted to let you know about this opportunity how you could be a part of THIS journey!!!

FIRST–you join me by being a VOICE for the orphans and widows of Wiphan Zambia. We had a t-shirt designed and 100% of the proceeds will go toward this trip. I’m sooooo excited about the design (Mike Hren of Hren Design did this for us–AND get this…he and his wife ALSO sponsor one of the Wiphan children so it was SO special to have him create this design!!!) There is a women’s tee (by Alternative Apparel–just go up ONE size from what you normally wear. I’m getting a MEDIUM)…

And THEN the standard t-shirt (true to size)…

We are PRE-selling the T-shirts for $25 each (includes shipping and handling!). We will presale for this ween and next week ONLY (I don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of shirts…so we’ll pre-sale for a week and a half and then order in 2 weeks!) Shirts will hopefully be in a few weeks later and delivered just in time for you to sport while we are there in July and spread the word! We ALSO have a brighter color scheme for kids shirts we may offer too–so please let me know by a head count;) who’d be interested in kids shirts too. You can purchase a t-shirt via Paypal RIGHT HERE:

THE WOMEN’S FITTED TEE:

Women’s Fitted Tee (by Alternative Apparel)

THE REGULAR TEE (BOTH FOR MEN AND WOMEN):

Unisex Regular Tee (by Gilden)

I LOOOVE that HANDS make up Africa on this shirt–and I just LOOOOVE the reminder that THE LORD HAS EACH AND EVERY ORPHAN AND WIDOW IN HIS HANDS! So many times I can let the overwhelming needs of African CONSUME my heart and mind–but HE’S GOT THIS. It is US He changes when He calls us to move–to go and allow Him to work through us. We simply stand there with our hands available–in AWE of His work and His love!!!

Sooo…buying a shirt for $25 is the FIRST way you can join me. ONE–your purchase will be support for me to go and in a way…you kind of going WITH me. SECOND–when you wear your shirt–you can tell others about Wiphan and that God is doing some pretty amazing stuff through orphans and widows there.

And speaking of Him working through us–WANNA KNOW EXACTLY OUR PURPOSE IN GOING???

A few months ago we lost one of our younger students NOT to death–but to pregnancy. I was sitting on the other side of my computer reading the details…as if it were my daughter. She chose to drop out of school and go marry this man. Her future–dramatically forever changed.

We are feeding the children.

We are offering an education to the children.

BUT nothing is going to help problems like the spread of AIDS, premarital sex, domestic abuse, etc—other than the GOSPEL.

Photography by Shannon Holden

We ARE offering Bible curriculum—but do these 450 orphans in our school have a momma to sit down with them and tell them what so many of us have or will one day tell our children about PURITY–WHY God wants us to be sold out to Him…that He has a hope and plan for EACH AND EVERY ONE of their futures…

Photography by Shannon Holden

So–this July…this momma feels like she needs to leave her precious 4 babies to tell each of these orphans how VALUED they are…no matter if they have already been raped or beaten or hurt or feel anything was their fault…HE LOVES THEM. HE HAS A PLAN FOR THEM. HE WANTS THEM TO BE PURE AND HOLY FOR HIS SAKE AND GLORY!!!

THIS JULY–we will put on a retreat for EVERY Wiphan orphan 10 years and above…a “Puity”…sort of retreat–only because of the nature we will incorporate how the Lord heals, how to forgive and how to be strengthened staying close to Him. Where they will worship. They will be loved on. They will even get FANTAS (QUITE a treat for these kids!) And our time together will end with a ceremony–where they have the opportunity to make commitments to the Lord–and then have purity rings placed on their finger as a promise to Him!!! (Christy Elphick–one of my Created for Care sidekicks is in the midst of raising $5,000 to purchase 500 purity rings at $10 each. The ring company is letting us have the $22 priced sterling silver rings for just $10 each!!! They have an Ichthys fish on them which we will explain in the first letters meant “Jesus Christ God’s son Savior”. IF you would like to help Christy with this other fundraiser–you can do that HERE. Go to trips and in the memo say it is for the Purity Retreat.)

NOW…GET THIS…

AFTER we finish the retreat for the orphans–guess who will be invited to the retreat for the NEXT day?!

Our 150 widows!!!

Here 15 widows graduate from the cookery program THIS month!!!!!!!

Widows in this culture are ostracized once they are widowed as their culture believes every widow is cursed with their spouse’s ghost. SO–after their husband dies, the family of the husband comes and takes all the possessions and the home leaving the widow and orphans (her fatherless) on the streets. (In Zambia when a father dies they have NO hope–so they refer to the any fatheless child as an orphan–also called a single orphan). Many widows feel DEVALUED and WORTHLESS…leading some to just give themselves away and not see themselves as pure…let alone able to be considered holy. We will be putting on a seperate retreat for these widows…and once again–they will WALK DOWN THE AISLE and make a commitment if they want to–to their Savior.

WHEN YOU JOIN US–YOU GET TO BE A PART OF THAT!!!!!

Now, here’s the fun part!!!

A chance to win a family photography session WITH the cd OR a PERSONAL photography shadow workshop session!

I thought it would also be fun to have every single person who wants to join us be entered into a raffle of sorts. Some of you may live far away from the South–BUT if you do and you win–then one you can hold on to this prize in hopes your family will be in these parts ONE day–OR you can of course gift this away and bless a local family with it. As most of you know I stopped my photography business last year. To the winner of the drawing—I will be giving away YOUR CHOICE of…

1) A FULL FAMILY SESSION ($150 value) AND A COMPLETE CD of HIGH RESOLUTION PICTURES ($Priceless…I didn’t put this on my pricelist:) You’ll EVEN get coached on how to display your portraits and print your session!

OR

2) A SATURDAY PHOTOGRAPHY SHADOW SESSION (a day with yours truly)–teaching you the ins and outs of camera settings, taking portraits of your children, tricks for photographing babies, post-processing techniques and printing!!! If you have a passion for photography then this would be SO MUCH FUN!!!! AND for someone who doesn’t live here…we could get creative and skype your lessons/session!!!

Now how to enter???

1) For every t-shirt you purchase–you will be entered into the session!

2) Make a seperate donation toward my trip OR toward Christy’s ring fundraiser (specify which it is for when you make your donation in the memo section HERE)–and you will be entered for the fundraiser (YES again if you also purchased a tshirt!)

AND THEN…if you do one of those things above and you’d like your name to be entered AGAIN…you can even be entered a few more times by…

3) Share this link on YOUR blog…and you’ll be entered again!

4) Share this link on Facebook…you’ll be entered ONE more time!!!

5) And last but not least–so you can follow our journey to Zambia while we are there in July–sign up to follow this blog and you’ll be entered yet AGAIN!!!

Ok…so if you don’t love photography…if you are a local–you can even trade it out for a sewing 101 session too;). THERE IS NO EXPIRATION date on this…so no worries if you don’t know when you’ll be in Georgia! IF you live in the Nashville/Brentwood areas…I’m often up in those parts too!

ALSO–please let me know in the comments section which of the many ways you entered so me and the kiddos (they are going to help me with the drawing!) enter you the correct amount of times!

FINALLY–THANK YOU guys for everyone who has been SO supportive of our work in Zambia–and for our continued journey!!!!! Love ya’ll to pieces…and can’t WAIT to take so many of y’all with me!!!! You know I’ll be coveting your prayers as I leave my littles AND for that plane ride–but most importantly that God would do an AMAZING work while we are there in the lives of widows and orphans!!!!!!!!!!

XOXO!

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

I.LOVE.YOUR.SHIRT!! I am in the beginging stages of planning a womens missions trip to Mexico to love on some orphans there and I would love to use your shirt as our “team shirt”. Just wondering if you are going to be ordering extras or are you ordering only what you get pre-orders for. As I said we are in the begining stages and really do not even know how many women will be going with us. What do you think? Should I guess as to how many women will be coming? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Shanna Stolte

Framing on the cheap {How to frame your own posters and prints}

One of the best investments I made back in my photography days was a professional framing starter kit that I purchased from Kendallhartcraft. I bought it with the intention to frame for my clients–but did this ONCE. The REAL investment has been NOT paying for $$$ professional framing and simply doing it myself. {Seriously–professional framing is always the real BREAKER in framing your portraits and prints isn’t it?!}

I purchased the frame kit and went to a simple framing training…trust me—it’s more training that I am betting most professionals get. I traveled to Huntsville to be trained but really–this tutorial is what I gained from it many years ago…and the 2 cents I got is still serving my pocketbook well. I frame EVERY print in my home myself.

Here’s the low down on the above arrangement. There is NO glass (glass = looks cheap but its not cheap) in these frames. INSTEAD–I buy my prints online at www.mpix.com and pay a whoppin’ $3-$5 more to have mounting board added to the back of the print. You can even get all crazy;) and make it look upscale by adding a fine texture to the print…it’ll give your print the look of canvas…SORT OF. So…the 10 prints above–all 11×14 prints mounted on mount board. SUPER inexpensive.

The framing? I just go to Hobby Lobby during their frame sale (it’s ALWAYS a full week of every month) and go back to the professional framing area. I purchase open back frames (THE FRAME ONLY!!!). So, Hobby Lobby makes it’s framing $$$ off you buying what you think are inexpensive open back frames (frame only) but they get you when you pay them to frame. SO–if you buy your plain ole open back frame ONLY during their 50% off sale–you do like I did and get these frames above for just $8 each! (Pay them to frame…and it’s over $50 a pop.)

Now for BIGGER prints…say a 30×40 world map–you can either mount it to mount board yourself (mounting spray available at any art supply store or H.Lobby–as well as plain mount board–which is around $5 a sheet…and that’ll suffice for just about anything–even a 30×40 print). On this weekend’s project, however, I wanted to use glass/acrylic so we could actually use dry erasers OVER the map when we are learning about different things here at home.

How to Frame Your Own Posters and Prints…on the cheap

1. BUY AN OPENBACK FRAME

SO…I bought a $7 30×40 antique finish map at Office Max. THEN I picked up a 30×40 CLEARANCE frame at Hobby Lobby (regular $85–marked down to $18 and with 50% off frames I got it for just $9) Here is $9 30×40 frame before…

I’m going to use this map in my kids study area–and research suggests to carefully use the colors red and orange around things you want to get and maintain attention. SO…I decided orange for the frame color…

2. MOUNT PRINT OR MOUNT PRINT TO FOAM BOARD/BACKING

THEN–I taped the map to the mount/foam board {Honestly–I should have also sprayed some mounting spray to keep wrinkles at bay–will do that next time;)}

Now–this map was NOT a perfect 30×40 size…but we’re framing on the cheap here folk. SO…we decided to nip some of Alaska and the Phillipians off;). {Hey, I’ve noticed on my Statcounter that I only have a few Alaskan readers–so I apologize to you for cutting your state off a bit.} I did use framing tape to secure the map to the foam board–BUT you could use any tape. I already had it in my original framing supply kit.

Glass is $10 cheaper than plexy/acrylic glass but I wanted the safest thing for a room children will use. You can get this at any glass company–and also for a bit more at any store that frames like Hobby Lobby. Again, I only added this so we can write on the map with dry erase markers and wipe off for our next geography lesson.

3. PLACE PRINT IN FRAME AND SECURE WITH DRIVER AND POINTS

I place my print/foam board in the frame and get ready to use the Framemaster Pointdriver. You simply load the frame points in the driver and when you pull the trigger–frame points shoot in the wood {you may recognize seeing these these in many frames you have purchased in the past}…

The framing pointdriver

The points…

This is the SAME thing you would do if you order a mounted print. You just place it in your open back plain frame and shoot the points in the wood to keep your mounted print secured. When you want to replace with a new print–simply bend the points back, take the print out and replace with new one…

4. OPTIONAL {for personal} – ADD BACKING {absolutely add if for professional business}

Really–you could add your hanging supplies there–OR you can be a nerd like me and go the extra mile. Because I have a huge Kraft paper roll that I use for countless crafts, I go the mile the professional framer goes and add backing. You can use simple double sided tape around the edge of your frame or one of these diddy’s that comes in a kit {same concept as double sided tape}…

Cut sheets of Kraft Paper to cover frame back and then cut excess paper off edges with a pro trim knife

To look like this…

The frames USUALLY will give you your print looking like this with the hanging hardware taped to back…

5. ADD HANGING HARDWARE

Now–to add the hanging hardware. I used the screws that came in the framing kit {you can purchase these at any craft or home repair store}…

I screw one into each end and then add wire–seriously a lifetime supply;) of wire that also came in the framing kit…

It is best to TIGHTLY wrap the ends of the wire around and around so it is secure before cutting.

THEN you are all set…

Granted the framing set cost me what it would have cost to get this 30×40 framed–but it was SO worth it because I never have to pay for professional framing and can easily afford to prints framed all over our home without the hefty framing costs. Now, if you are local friend…you know you are more than welcome to borrow my framing supplies any ole time!

Soooo…there’s the skinny on framing 101. There is nothing more beautiful to me than to have portraits of your family gracing the walls of your home. They are God’s most amazing work of art!!!! And if you can frame cheaply and replace easily…then owning your own frame kit just might be a worthy investment!

That’s all folks! Y’all have a great day!

Andrea

Love it! What a great framing tutorial! Thanks, Andrea! And I love Mpix too! I was so impressed with their quality and prices! And they run sales all the time!!!

FABULOUS post!!! I use my tape gun all the time for paper crafting/card making. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love this tutorial! The idea of using your map in a glassed frame is fabulous. I have to say that I crack up every time you mention “when my kids study” or any variation of that phrase that you are famous for. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yer killin me. When I come to Atlanta can I be considered a local and have an in person Andrea tutorial!??! I have a ton to frame! ๐Ÿ™‚

Kim - May 25, 2011 - 8:31 am

GREAT tips, thank you!!!

Lindsay - May 25, 2011 - 10:39 am

I have been wanting to do something just like this!! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find that map?? I’ve been on the search for one like that. Thank you!

jenn - May 25, 2011 - 4:07 pm

Fun! Did you know that if you purchase ANY open back frame from Hobby Lobby they will frame it for you for FREE? That doesn’t include the price of the glass. But I got 4 pics of my kiddos mounted on 2mm styrene…bought 4 half price frames…took my pics to the counter and they set them in the frames, added back board, covered the back, and added hardware. NO COST! And they had my order ready in 24 hours. Just good to know because I had no idea they did that!

admin - May 25, 2011 - 4:20 pm

I guess it differs for every HL Jenn–b/c the last thing I paid HL to frame for me was $$$!!! I want YOUR HL girl!!!!!! That is one sweet deal!!!

Sara - June 18, 2011 - 12:21 am

Great directions but I must say I am a professional framer at Michaels. The service is over priced but I’ve never had anyone regret the decision to have it done. Also if you order your frame through custom framing, even during a 64% off sale, the frame itself is still expensive. Also we do A LOT of training and then are expected to pass three different level exams.

Tara - August 10, 2011 - 9:36 am

Thank you SO much for these pointers! I just picked up a couple of open back frames at Michaels yesterday on major clearance but didn’t know how to use them! I’ve never heard of Mpix and it is just what I’ve been looking for!

Sarah - November 24, 2012 - 6:06 pm

hands down, one of the best framing tutorials I’ve found. I’ve been looking for one that is inspired by solid, professional techniques but is approachable and involves a craft store rather than someone’s Framing Workshop of Intimidation.

A million times over – thank you for publishing this.

Anne - December 7, 2012 - 12:25 pm

What Sarah said!

I have been on a print buying spree and the framing is killing me and my pocketbook. I’ve been wondering if I could do a decent-looking job of framing these prints myself, and now I feel that I can jump in and do it by following your instructions.

THANK YOU!

Alex - December 23, 2013 - 3:50 pm

Thanks for the great article – super useful and appreciate the pointers, however I had an unrelated comment to make. I’m glad you didn’t want to offend the Alaskans, but who are the Phillipians? Like the ancient people that a book in the bible was named after? Or the island of the Philippines where Filipino people live? You probably offended them more.

Omar - May 2, 2015 - 8:52 pm

Thank you sooo much for this! I bought some prints on ebay, went to Michael’s today and saw the open backed frames (40% off, yessssss!), which were way nicer than any of the others. I saw the “kit” which was cardboard and a sheet of glass. It looked amazing, but then, how will I keep the print in the frame and how do people use these dang things? A quick Google search led me here and I am so glad. Terribly helpful.

African Family Fellowship… {and a recital}

Sooo…our weekend was crazy {will share the crazy later this week}…but seasoned with sweetness to. I’ll share the sweetness today and the crazy in a few days after I get the rest of my thoughts together. For now…the sweetness!!!

We celebrated our princess in so many ways this weekend…and one was through her love of dance. She’s 5 years old–and this was her THIRD year of dance. She did a beautiful job on Saturday–and I love that when I asked her if she was nervous in front of ALL those people she responded, “Nope. I had fun!” Here is the princess with momma before the big performance!

We had so much fun getting ready for the performance–and she’s so excited about her 4th year of ballet ahead. She has requested to add violin to her list of performing arts—doesn’t she look like ballerina and violinist material:)

And then on Sunday…we had our African Adoption Fellowship!

Here’s cool-and-the gang…

And of course ITY was on the go…

The Bubars hanging with some Ethiopia families in waiting…the Chalks and the Campbells…

Rico Suave representing with the Browns (waiting for their TWINS in Uganda!)

Sweet little Mark with momma Sara Cain whose been home from Uganda for less than a month!

Sweet friends showing some sisterly love…and Isaac is EATING it up!

The boys just hangin’ out…

THEN…it was jammie time and time to prepare for a week ahead. Who votes it’s time for our 2 1/2 year old to have his FIRST haircut?!

Can you BELIEVE he has NOT had a haircut YET?!

Hope ya’ll have a good day…and can’t wait to show y’all my weekend project {How to frame like professionals on the cheap} and then later this week–I have to share my heart on STANDING FIRM IN YOUR CALLING. It’s a post that has been brewing for 6 weeks now–just have to share in a few days!!!!!!!!!

Much love to y’all from the South!

AWWW! Love these precious pics! We had dance recital weekend too…so precious! Can’t wait to read your post on “standing firm in your calling” because that is exactly what we feel like God is telling us to do. He continues to tell us to “stay the course”…our daughter is in Ethiopia.

Deborah L. King - May 24, 2011 - 9:32 am

I vote no on the haircut. Frankie is too cute. Looking forward to the next two posts. Thanks for sharing.

Some business…and then some sweet fluff:)

Alrighty dear blog readers–first…I have 2 orders of business:). Very important stuff I might add:) Do you ever number your important things to cover in emails like me? Some times it helps this scatterbrained momma get ‘er done…and keep my brain organized.

1. FIRST, one of my sweet blog readers is a SINGLE mom—yet the Lord has called her to bring home ANOTHER child. Sarah Elliot is in the midst of brining home a little one from Ethiopia–and being a single momma she has had to get a little creative in meeting the financial deadlines for her adoption. She just sent off her dossier–which means for her agency…she’s got another big deadline around the corner. Sweet Sarah emailed me and shared how she has been working after hours making custom coasters to raise money for her adoption. {Oh, how I know this just makes our Father in heaven smile!} Sarah is a full time nurse, mommy to her son Noah and also does photography on the side. BUT she says her mommy job is her most important of all!! Noah has dreamed of a brother–and when the Lord led Sarah to adopt…they began this journey together. She is selling coasters on her BLOG HERE to help bring home her son from Ethiopia. 4 come in a set for $15 (+$5 shipping). You can get 4 seperate ones in the set–but I’m going to ask Sarah to just send me 4 the same…my favorite is this one:

2. SECOND, did you hear about the AMAZING Created for Care retreat we hosted this past February?! You really don’t want to miss future gatherings/retreats with Created for Care. It will ROCK your world…in a really amazing way…so whether you have already adopted, you have a heart for orphan care, you are considering adoption or just know you want to adopt ONE day….go ahead and sign up for coorespondance from us now! You can SIGN UP for the…

Quarterly e-newsletter by clicking HERE. Nothing other than an email newletter in your email every quarter when you fill that out. Trust me–I’m too crazy busy to be organized enough to send out anything more:) BUT what does come will be full of good stuff:)

Created for Care Facebook page HERE. Okay–so if you miss the e-newsletter because it gets lost in cyberspace–then here’s your double whammy. I’ll always repost the newsletter to the Facebook page…plus you will get the fun C4C banter talk on FB:). Alright–so there’s no banter talk there YET…but there will be:).

AND if you didn’t go to the retreat and you just signed up for the newsletter after the May 2011 already came out–then you can see the Spring Created for Care newsletter HERE.

Okay…so some of you just read that and thought, “Well…I’d love to know what’s going on–BUT I’m not adopting and haven’t adopted.” WELL…if you thought you’d love to know what is going on with C4C…just SIGN UP to get the newsletter. Ya NEVER know why you are curious about adoption stuff;). JUST sayin’;).

3. SOME SWEET FLUFF Today…marked Frankie baby’s LAST day of preschool for the school year. I was sad to say goodbye to his OH SO SWEET teachers–but honestly, now that ITY is out of PT–I’m super excited to have my Frankie baby 100% all back to myself! He had a little pool party at the end of year party WHICH I forgot my camera for. BUT Parker and Laney suggested after noon carpool pick-up (YES–they go to a sweet little school that gets out at NOON…LOVE IT! Don’t you know you can really get all ya need by noon!) at their school…that we move the “pool” party to our backyard. ITY asked for a nap in his “almost 2” kind of way…and we put baby boy down for a nappy-nap and the rest of us headed out to turn on the hose…a daily ritual of most Southerners…

YES, Laney is standing in a 20 gallon bucket. BUT I like to tell my kids it’s a pool. Hey, when you have 4 kids 6 and under—safety has to come first;). Bless their hearts, right? Hey–but they are safe!

I LOOOOVE how having them home in the afternoons leads to some spontaneous brotherly love. I just love watching how the older ones lead and guide the younger ones…

Don’t you know our neighbors have got to hate us? Golf balls always ending up in their backyard. Either they hate us or love us…depending on if they play the game.

And EVERY golfer needs a reliable caddy. I was cracking up how Parker naturally got to be the golfer–while Frank took the position as his caddy…

Frankie baby caddy cracked me up for other reasons too. Truly…he is a one-of-a-kind caddy…don’t ya think;)?!

NOW–the real excitement in the game happened when one of P’s golf balls ended up in a neighbors yard. It went RIGHT over their fence. Slight problem–Rosie got a little carried away and some how DETERMINED to get that ball ended up over the fence with the ball…and for the life of us we couldn’t figure out how she got on the other side OR how to get her back. Because it was just after lunch and we knew these neighbors wouldn’t be home until after 5ish–AND we had a baby upstairs sleeping–we bid her well and cheered for her to come back however in the world-of-a-way that she got over there in the first place!

I called the children in for milk and cookies–but not even milk and cookies could let Rosie’s keeper be distracted from helping her. P found a way for her to return and all was well…just in time for milk and cookies…

And to THINK of all the action the neighbors missed today;)

Thank you Mama Judy for sending the kids these yummy straws that make for some delish chocolate and strawberry milk! It was the perfect thing with our cookies today!!!!!!

Here’s what the package of the straws look like–you know you want some! AND you can read about them HERE.

And all was well–until the 2 year old…you know–

BUT life is TOO short to fuss over spilled milk. SO, we clean up our mess–move to a safer spot…and filler back up. All’s well and ends well…

SMOOCHES from our family to yours! {Question for you guys…HOW in the world do y’all get those rub on tatoos off your kids??? Frank has been wearing Mater from Lightning McQueen for over a week now! Can NOT get that sucker off!}

XOXO! AND…on a YAY adoption note. We’d like to thank the state of Kentucky (where I was born) and the state of Georgia (where Rico Suave was born) for promptly mailing our certified birth certificate copies. SHOULD have gotten two of those suckers last time…but who knew! Another thing off our checklist…YAY!

Y’all have a great weekend…and I have GOT to post my fruit tea recipe for ya’ll soon b/c the weather is warming up and it’s that time!

Andrea:)

I am scrambling this evening – but saw you posted and had to check it out. Only had time to scroll through pictures – will come back tomorrow to read. =) But wanted to say that the coaster is my FAVORITE verse as it was the blessing my Pastor spoke to me when I was baptized. LOVE IT!! Rings so true to me. I will be jumping over to purchase. =) Thanks for the link!!!

A little olive oil will take those tattoos right off! Been following your blog for a while now. Your babies are gorgeous! Thank you for always being so encouraging and positive!
God bless!

I’ve just started reading your blog, and I love hearing about your kiddos (and your “paper” pregnancy, with one on the way). Thanks for sharing your heart.

On a practical note, fingernail polish remover should take off the wretched tattoo. My kids love them, and grandma loves to help them out, but they drive me absolutely crazy. If you wait for the tattoo to wear off, Frank may be starting kindergarten with Mater on his hand…

Soooo fun getting to see a snapshot of your afternoon! Didn’t know they made such straws. Wow. My boys would have been all over those when they were little. ๐Ÿ™‚

Loved hearing about the fund raising idea! I can SO appreciate this mom’s efforts. We did massive assembly lines during our 2nd daughter’s adoption with card making. Thousands upon thousands of cards were made and we ended up raising about $10,000 that way over the year. It was an INSANE amount of work and sooooooooo worth it for our precious wee-one to have a family.

Baby oil is another way to take off temporary tatoos.

Joy Kinard - May 19, 2011 - 8:43 am

Use rubbing alcohol on the tattoo. It will come right off. I love your little family! I read your blog all the time, but rarely leave you a comment. I hate when people don’t leave me comments, so sorry about that! I was thinking about your sweet family just the other day. We have a sweet foster baby girl that we are praying God allows us to adopt. She is African American and we are white. I was getting myself in a tizzy about if she will fit in with her african-american peers, who she will marry, etc…. And then it occured to me that I could PRAY that God will surround her with other children just like her! Black babies with white parents! So… I got busy with the praying. I can not wait to see what God does about it!

Love the cute pics! And I was looking for some coasters the other day…will go order some from Sarah!!!

Sandi - May 20, 2011 - 2:31 pm

Thank you for letting us know about Sarah! Hoping one day it will be us. Until then it just makes my heart happy to support other families who are giving one more child a loving family!!!! I’m thinkin’ those coaster sets will make some lovely presents. I love gifts with “a conscience”, makes them that much more special!

Maria’s Big, Big House {An amazing news story of hope…}

***Turn off music up top before watching news story below:)*** SO worth your watching…and so thankful that God opened our eyes–and is growing our family AGAIN. The world looks at us and says, “Seriously? Again?” And we proudly answer, “YES. AGAIN! Because she deserves to be a daughter…to have a family…and to be loved and protected. She deserves to be fought for and sought after. We are so blessed–and thankful to join other families like these in growing AGAIN!”

AND you can go to the Wright Family blog–the family also featured in this news story–by visiting HERE! I completely HEART the adoption community world! We are all connected in some way—our hearts of course…but she also knows my aunt…which makes this world even smaller and so much more sweet. Follow their journey to their sweet one…I can’t help but smile b/c he shares the name of my son Isaac:)

XOXO,

Andrea

God used Steven Curtis Chapman powerfully in our lives. It was at his concert in 2004 where my husband finally felt the call to adopt. He turned to me at intermission and said, “I am ready if you still are”. Two years later we welcomed Eliza from China. I will forever be so grateful to the Chapman family for their love of orphans!
Thank you Andrea for being His word and doing His work every day!!! I always look forward to what you have to share!

Thanks for sharing this {we were so honored to get to be a part of this segment}. I have commented here before and I am so inspired and encouraged by your family and your blog. {My mother in law works with Lesa Young at the pregnancy center, which is how I heard about you guys.} It is such a gift to hear about families like yours who share our heart for orphans and adoption and following where the Lord leads…even when the rest of the world thinks we are nuts:) Thanks for the ways that you share here!! Blessings to your sweet family!

Farrah - May 17, 2011 - 9:53 pm

Andrea, does she have an email address? I would love to talk to her about her domestic adoption. I couldn’t find one on their blog. But she may not want it out.

Kim - May 18, 2011 - 1:10 am
